Job Description

Primary Purpose:
The Teacher Resident is a student teacher who participates in a year-long teacher residency program under the mentorship and guidance of a highly effective Host Teacher. The Teacher Resident is responsible for implementing the district's instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated in accordance with district goals, policies, and procedures. The Teacher Resident collaborates with other members of the school community in their efforts to prepare students to increase their academic performance to meet state standards. The Teacher Resident will gradually assume greater responsibilities throughout the residency year. All employees of CISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, champion the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Recommended by the university or Educational Preparation Program (EPP) for placement in a yearlong residency. Successful completion of state certification exams in content area
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supports co-planning and co-teaching with the Host Teacher and team members, leading whole- group and small-group instruction as directed by the Host Plans lessons, activities, and assessments to ensure ongoing alignment with overall educational goals and objectives. Engages in team planning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), school-based professional development, and summer training. Assists the Host Teacher and team members in monitoring instruction and activities through assessments, grading, data analysis, and rubrics. Adapts and enhances lesson plans to promote effective student learning, maintaining high standards and readiness for differentiation. Collaborates with the Host Teacher and team to ensure consistency in instruction and delivery across all classrooms, addressing student learning challenges. Follows teaching expectations outlined by the teacher residency program. Participates in informal and formal observations and walkthroughs by the campus or District administration. Provides small-group instruction and utilizes appropriate tools and rubrics to facilitate learning under the guidance of the host teacher. Monitors students during independent work periods concurrent with the assigned teacher's instruction. Holding students accountable for high expectations of behavior and learning engagement. Manages procedures, oversees students, and fosters students' social-emotional skills during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other activities, while team teachers plan or deliver instruction. Accepting and incorporating feedback from the host teacher to improve professional skills. Effectively communicate with students, parents, host teacher, team teachers, and campus. Maintains confidentiality. Complies with all State, District and Campus policies and procedures. Attends departmental, campus and district meetings, as required. Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, and some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
Mental demands:
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
