Instructor Kansas State University $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 United States, Kansas, Manhattan 1810 Kerr Drive (Show on map) Jun 29, 2026 About This Role The Department of Grain and Food Science seeks applications for a non-tenure-track, annually renewable position at the Instructor level in the area of milling science and management. The Position is for the 9-month academic year, with the possibility of work during the summer months to supplement salary.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses in milling/grain processing and management of milling operations. Exhibits a genuine passion for inspiring students and fostering their academic and professional growth. Support programmatic efforts including student mentoring, recruitment, internships and job placement, curriculum development, and service on departmental committees. Actively contribute to departmental outreach with industry partners and recruitment initiatives. Other duties as assigned by the Department Head. Since 1951, it has remained one of the few institutions worldwide to offer four-year bachelor's degrees in Bakery Science and Management, Feed and Pet Food Science, Food Science, and Milling Science and Management. Our internationally recognized graduate program also provides a wide range of opportunities for both applied and fundamental research, leading to master's and doctoral degrees in grain science, food science, and related fields. Worksite Description This position is On-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho. What You'll Need to
Succeed Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Milling Science, Cereal Science, Process Engineering, or a related discipline. Five years of direct experience in the wheat, corn, oat, or rye milling industry (or a related field), which may include roles in production or operations, maintenance supervision, or project management. Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching in a classroom setting Desire and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and contribute to a collegial and collaborative workplace. The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
