Job Summary:
Director of Athletics and Wellness Center. This position provides leadership and oversight for LCC's intercollegiate athletic programs and Wellness Center operations, with a strong focus on student-athlete success, program excellence, and community engagement. The Director oversees athletic programs, coaches and staff, compliance, budgets, scheduling, facilities, events, and daily departmental operations. The successful candidate will foster a positive, unified, and student-centered athletic culture built on accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, and high expectations while supporting the growth and success of coaches and student-athletes. This position ensures compliance with LCC and Colorado Community College System policies, NJCAA requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Athletic Leadership & Staff Development:
Provide leadership, supervision, and coordination of LCC intercollegiate athletic programs. Lead regular athletic department meetings; oversee coaching searches and the implementation of new or existing programs; and mentor coaches regarding departmental expectations, responsibilities, and professional developmen
NJCAA Compliance:
Provide leadership and oversight of NJCAA and Region IX compliance requirements, including letters of intent, recruiting, transfer waivers, releases, disciplinary matters, ejections, required reporting, and audits. Serve as LCC's primary athletics representative with the NJCAA and Region IX and promote a department-wide culture of integrity and compliance.
Budget & Resource Management:
Oversee athletic department and Wellness Center budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation. Provide guidance to coaches regarding purchasing and budget responsibilities while ensuring appropriate fiscal stewardship.
Fundraising & Community Engagement:
Provide leadership for athletic fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the LCC Foundation, Booster Club, coaches, and community partners. Promote LCC Athletics through community engagement, service projects, camps, speaking engagements, and other outreach opportunities.
Athletic Operations:
Oversee the operational needs of athletic programs, including scheduling, transportation, facility and equipment usage, practices, competitions, and other day-to-day athletic activities. Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
Marketing & Promotion:
Support the marketing and promotion of LCC Athletics, including athletic events, fundraising initiatives, digital communications, and live-streaming activities.
Athletic Events & Game Management:
Plan, coordinate, and oversee home athletic events, including staffing, facility preparation, game-day operations, admissions, concessions, event reconciliation, and post-event facility security and cleanup.
Wellness Center Operations:
Provide oversight of Wellness Center operations, scheduling, staffing, and events. Coordinate use of the facility for College and community activities, including fairs, festivals, educational events, and other special programs.
Facility Coordination:
Coordinate with Physical Plant and other campus departments regarding facility maintenance, event preparation, safety concerns, and operational needs of athletic and Wellness Center facilities.
Student & Temporary Staff Supervision:
Coordinate and supervise student employees and other assigned personnel supporting athletic and Wellness Center operations.
Scheduling & Communication:
Maintain and coordinate athletic and Wellness Center schedules, including practices, competitions, special events, and alternative facilities when necessary. Ensure timely communication of schedules and facility needs to appropriate stakeholders.
Institutional Service:
Participate in College accreditation activities, institutional initiatives, committees, and other assignments that support the mission and strategic priorities of Lamar Community College.
Oversee and monitor student-athlete eligibility in accordance with NJCAA, Region IX, and institutional requirements. Collaborate with coaches, Student Services, Registrar, Financial Aid, and other appropriate departments to ensure eligibility requirements, documentation, and deadlines are accurately maintained and communicated. Support coaches in monitoring student-athlete academic progress and promoting continued academic success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree Required College Coaching or administrative experience required. (Minimum 5 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of Region 9 athletics and Southeast Colorado. Knowledge and understanding of NJCAA Policies & Procedures Valid Class "C" Colorado Driver's license. (PRN travel to locations with teams)
Selection Process:
-First round virtual interview with committee -Second round in-person interview with Executive Team Travel reimbursement up to $300 for in person interview expenses.
