The K-12 Mathematics and Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator at the Idaho Department of Education provides statewide leadership for mathematics and gifted and talented programming across all grade levels. The position serves as the state lead for these content areas, overseeing the development and implementation of Idaho Content Standards and supporting high-quality instructional practices. The coordinator leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development to strengthen educator capacity in mathematics and gifted and talented education, including instruction, differentiation, and enrichment. This position works collaboratively across departments, local education agencies, and external partners to promote rigorous academic opportunities, equitable access to coursework, and measurable student outcomes. The role also oversees statewide initiatives related to mathematics and gifted and talented education, including program development, curriculum support, grant implementation, and alignment to legislative priorities. This role requires deep expertise in mathematics education, gifted and talented pedagogy, and systems-level leadership to support continuous improvement in student achievement. This is a full-time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the state lead and subject matter expert for mathematics, with support for gifted and talented education. Lead and support the development, review, revision, and implementation of Idaho Content Standards in these content areas. Provide guidance, technical assistance, and support to school districts and public charter schools in curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention, and program implementation. Oversee and lead the design, coordination, and delivery of professional development to strengthen educator knowledge and instructional practice. Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of guidance documents, instructional resources, tools that support educators in implementing high-quality instruction, and website content to support educators and local education agencies. Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to these content areas, including program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts. Coordinate statewide initiatives, including the work and oversight of the Regional Math Centers, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement related to these content areas. Collaborate with Department teams, the State Board of Education, educator preparation programs, professional organizations, local education agencies, and other external partners. Create and manage related contracts, budgets, grants, data collection, reporting, and program evaluation activities. Plan, facilitate, and participate in meetings, committees, and professional organizations, representing the Department at the state and national levels. Promote public awareness and understanding of education in these content areas through communication, presentations, and stakeholder engagement. Perform all work in accordance with Department policies and procedures and perform other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in the related area of education. Idaho Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education or Secondary Mathematics endorsement. Five or more years of experience in K-12 education, including teaching or leadership roles. Strong understanding of K-12 content, pedagogy, and instructional best practices. Experience planning and delivering professional development to educators and school leaders. Ability to communicate articulately through writing, speaking, and public presenting with a variety of stakeholder groups. Ability to manage multiple projects, including writing contracts. Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and organizations. Ability to manage budgets and track expenditures. Ability to travel to provide technical assistance and training throughout the state.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
(Extra Consideration Will Be Given) Teaching experience in mathematics. Graduate-level coursework or degree in the field of education. Additional endorsement in gifted and talented education. Experience teaching or supporting Gifted and Talented Education. Specialized training related to literacy in cross-curricular instruction. Experience as a school or district administrator or building team leader. Ability to analyze and apply educational research to program development and instructional improvement.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents. Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods. Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities. Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time. Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling. Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.TRAVEL REQUIRED
This position requires approximately 35% travel time throughout the state for training, monitoring, and face-to-face interactions with Idaho schools.BENEFITS

They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official.
