Work Schedule This position is primarily scheduled during daytime hours; however, occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support college events such as New Student Welcome Day, Convocation, and other activities. The position is based primarily at the Middletown Campus but may require travel to the Fauquier Campus, Luray-Page County Center, local high schools, businesses, and other community partner locations as needed. Sensitive Position No Job Description The primary role of the Associate Dean position is to provide support to the academic dean, faculty, and staff in the designated academic school. This position reports to the Dean of Professional and Technical Studies and will directly hire, supervise, and evaluate the part-time faculty housed within the school. The School of Professional Programs houses the following programs/pathways: Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, Emerging Technology and Advanced Manufacturing (AI, Applied Data Science, Industrial Robotics and Automation, UMS /Drones, Virtual Reality & Game Design), Health Information Management, Information Systems Technology, and Skilled Trades. The Associate Dean will serve as a liaison for the Dean in matters related to student issues and complaints, the coordination of school operations including course scheduling, and will support the larger strategic priorities of the school and the Academic and Student Affairs unit. The Associate Dean will serve as a 12-month administrative faculty member who should have the flexibility to work at our various college locations.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Serve as an academic leader within the school by supporting curriculum changes and assessment of courses/programs housed within the school.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, evaluate, and support adjunct faculty in coordination with the Dean and Program Leads within the School of Professional Programs.
  • Support the Dean in school operations, including class scheduling and registration, budget planning, textbook selection and ordering, and other operational activities.
  • Represent the Dean in matters related to student requests/issues, including, but not limited to, course substitutions, override requests, credit for prior learning, transcript evaluations, formal complaints, grade changes, incomplete grades, and academic integrity matters.
  • Collaborate with program leads, faculty, and the Dean to develop strategic, student-centered class schedules that promote student success, retention, and completion.
  • Serve as an administrative lead for the school in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support faculty, program leads, and the Dean in assessment activities, including general education assessment, program review, and unit planning and reporting.
  • Strengthen career and technical education ( CTE ) programs and pathways through collaboration with K-12 partners, industry stakeholders, curriculum development initiatives, and workforce alignment efforts.
  • Provide support for Perkins grant planning, budget administration, and expenditures to support Career and Technical Education program priorities
  • Develop and strengthen external partnerships to support workforce development, program innovation, enrollment growth, and community engagement.
  • Coordinate with other Associate Deans to manage college wide processes related to adjunct faculty recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and support.
Schedule and Location This position is primarily scheduled during daytime hours; however, occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support college events such as New Student Welcome Day, Convocation, and other activities.   • Master's degree in an academic discipline represented within the School of Professional and Technical Studies or in higher education administration.
  • Earned Doctorate in higher education administration, a related field, or a discipline represented in the Academic
  • School.
  • Full-time teaching experience at the college level.
  • Administrative/leadership experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of community college curricula, instructional practices, and learning outcomes.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment.
  • Experience managing grants and preparing reports.
  • Experience in developing strategic, student-focused and programmatic class schedules.
