Colby-Sawyer College is a comprehensive liberal arts-based institution located in the scenic Lake Sunapee area of New Hampshire. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid supports the Director of Financial Aid in administering the College's financial aid programs and services. This position assists with the planning, implementation, and day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office, supporting the awarding and delivery of financial aid to students served by the College. As a key member of a collaborative 2.5-person office, the Assistant Director provides exceptional service to students and families, helps ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and contributes to the College's enrollment and student retention goals. Essential Job Functions
  • Support the Director of Financial Aid in the implementation of financial aid packaging for new, transfer, and international students, collaborating with admissions, consultants, and Information Technology to ensure accurate and timely awarding.
  • Assist with the administration and reconciliation of Title IV Federal Student Aid programs, including the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loan programs. Monitor the federal inbox, review ISIRs, federal loan and grant records, and help maintain the accuracy and integrity of the financial aid management system.
  • Support the director of financial aid to ensure compliance with all institutional, federal, and state regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Assist the Vice President for Enrollment Management and the Director of Financial Aid in supporting recruitment and retention initiatives, including participation in open houses, information sessions, orientation programs, and other enrollment events.
  • Provide exceptional student-centered service by counseling prospective and current students and their families on financial aid eligibility, application processes, financing options, and related policies with empathy, professionalism, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Services Office to support sound fiscal controls, including federal loan processing and federally required Direct Loan reconciliations.
  • Attention to detail and research skills. Maintain current knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, industry best practices, and financial aid technologies, including PowerFAIDS or comparable financial aid management systems.
  • Assist with the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of financial aid procedures to promote operational efficiency, compliance, and excellent customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline; Master's degree desirable. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid administration or a related higher education field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and skills. Superior communication skills required to communicate sensitive, complicated, and confidential information to prospective students, families, and colleagues. Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and compliance requirements. Experience collaborating with admissions and other campus partners to support institutional enrollment and student success goals. Technical expertise related to online resources and processes. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements The essential functions of this job require an individual who is able to adequately (1) communicate well enough to be understood by others, (2) operate a personal computer and (3) use a telephone. In the course of the typical workday, one may be required to transport oneself short distances in order to attend campus meetings and events. These distances will generally not exceed three standard city blocks.
