Primary Position Objectives The UWC-USA program - a two-year experience that integrates our Academic, Bartos Institute, and Residential curricula - prepares students to serve as catalysts for greater unity, peace and sustainability in the world. We support students in the practice of our mission during their two years on campus and challenge them to live our mission for a lifetime. The Director of Future Pathways and University Counseling leads UWC-USA's efforts to support students in exploring, accessing, and succeeding in post-secondary opportunities around the world. The Director at UWC-USA provides individualized counseling and strategic university application planning for more than 200 students representing over 80 nationalities while overseeing university counseling, scholarships, and financial aid advising, educational partnerships, departmental operations, and student success initiatives. UWC-USA students come from diverse educational, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. More than 80% of students receive financial assistance, making educational access, affordability, scholarship attainment, and strategic university partnerships central components of the Future Pathways program. Through the Davis UWC Scholars Program and other educational partnerships, the Director helps students pursue pathways that maximize opportunity while minimizing financial barriers. The Director supports students in navigating a complex and often stressful process, helping them identify their values, goals, and interests while making healthy, informed, and confident decisions about their educational futures. Working with a globally diverse student body, the Director develops and maintains systems and programs that allow students to receive personalized guidance while ensuring equitable access to university, scholarship, enrichment, and leadership opportunities. Students pursue higher education pathways across multiple countries and educational systems, requiring expertise in international admissions, financial aid, and enrollment processes. UWC-USA students and families often prioritize affordability when considering higher education options, requiring thoughtful guidance around university fit, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and long-term outcomes. The Director serves as an administrative member of the Educational Division and as a member of both the Educational Leadership Team and Student Success Team. As part of a residential boarding school community, the Director also participates in shared leadership responsibilities, including the Administrator on Duty rotation. This is challenging and meaningful work that combines direct student counseling, educational access, university partnerships, program management, and institutional leadership in support of student success. Responsibilities Student Counseling and Postsecondary Planning Provide individualized university counseling and pathway planning for more than 200 students. Guide students through university exploration, strategic application planning, scholarship planning, financial aid, enrollment decisions, and post-secondary planning. Conduct individual family meetings to support understanding of higher education systems in different countries and to align university planning with students' academic interests, career aspirations, financial circumstances, and long-term goals. Help students identify their values, goals, interests, and aspirations while developing educational plans aligned with their strengths and circumstances. Support students in managing the academic, personal, and emotional complexities of the university application process and post-secondary decision-making. Advise students applying through multiple higher education systems, including the United States, the United Kingdom through UCAS, Canada, Europe, Asia, and other international destinations. Support students with university admissions testing and application requirements across different national systems. Assist students in developing realistic, balanced, and financially viable application lists. Review and provide feedback on essays, personal statements, resumes, portfolios, and other application materials. Complete counselor recommendations, school reports, and institutional documentation required by universities, scholarship providers, and educational programs. Support students during course selection and academic planning in partnership with faculty and school leadership Support first-year students through introductory coursework and programming focused on adjusting to UWC-USA, understanding the IB Diploma Programme, and beginning post-secondary exploration. Support students through enrollment and matriculation processes, including financial aid verification, enrollment deposits, visa and immigration requirements, SEVIS-related processes, travel barriers, financial restrictions, and other circumstances that may affect successful enrollment. Monitor the release of IB examination results and support students with conditional offers, confirmations, admissions adjustments, appeals, and university communications as needed. Scholarships, Financial Aid, and Educational Opportunities University and Educational Partnerships Program Management and Administration Program Delivery and Signature Events Distributive Leadership Lead access-focused counseling that helps students identify affordable and attainable post-secondary pathways. Support students in pursuing opportunities through the Davis UWC Scholars Program and other access-oriented partnerships. Maintain a strategic focus on scholarship pathways and university partnerships that provide strong outcomes and affordability for UWC students. Advise students on institutional scholarships, merit awards, access initiatives, university recruitment opportunities, summer enrichment programs, leadership experiences, and competitive educational opportunities. Develop and maintain systems for identifying, tracking, and communicating scholarship, enrichment, and recruitment opportunities aligned with student interests, backgrounds, and financial circumstances. Help students and families understand financial aid processes, scholarship requirements, and funding models across multiple higher education systems. Build and maintain relationships with universities, scholarship organizations, access programs, enrichment providers, and educational partners in the United States and internationally. Serve as a primary point of contact between UWC-USA and external post-secondary partners. Represent UWC-USA with admissions officers, scholarship providers, educational organizations, and university partners worldwide. Cultivate relationships with admissions representatives, university partners, and members of the global UWC counseling network to support student opportunities and maintain informed counseling practices. Maintain knowledge of global admissions systems, including UCAS, country-specific admissions requirements, admissions testing, scholarship programs, and international enrollment trends. Coordinate university visits, information sessions, recruitment events, and outreach activities. Attend and represent UWC-USA at the annual International Association for College Admission Counseling Conference. Participate in counselor fly-ins and professional visits to strengthen institutional partnerships and maintain current knowledge of admissions practices. Develop and maintain outward-facing university counseling materials, including the UWC-USA School Profile and other materials used to represent the school to universities and external audiences. Lead the Future Pathways and University Counseling program in alignment with the mission and values of UWC-USA. Supervise, support, and evaluate the Administrative Assistant for Future Pathways. Oversee the Student Success Academic Dashboard and related data systems used to monitor student progress, identify students requiring additional support, inform interventions, support student success initiatives, and contribute to institutional decision-making. Oversee school document support for university, scholarship, enrichment, and other educational applications, including management of the Document Request Form, transcript processing, school reports, and related workflows. Oversee collection and maintenance of previous school transcripts, UWC-USA report cards, official transcripts, and related academic records. Oversee Naviance files, application records, teacher recommendation workflows, and teacher reference completion. Oversee Future Pathways PandaDocs, departmental records, operational workflows, and budget reporting. Develop and manage the Future Pathways budget, including planning, expenditure tracking, forecasting, reporting, and stewardship of departmental resources. Monitor and report on student outcomes, university admissions, scholarships, financial aid, enrollment outcomes, and program effectiveness. Prepare reports, presentations, and data analysis for the Head of School, Educational Leadership Team, Student Success Team, and other institutional stakeholders, including contributions to regular reports provided to the Board of Trustees. Participate in parent-facing town halls, family education programs, and presentations for donors, university representatives, educational partners, and visiting stakeholders. Support the annual review and development of university-facing and public-facing materials, including the School Profile, institutional publications, annual reports, and other communications that represent UWC-USA to external audiences. Design and deliver a comprehensive Future Pathways curriculum through workshops, presentations, small-group advising, and individual counseling. Develop scalable resources/systems that support students and reduce barriers to access. Facilitate programming for students, families, and staff related to university admissions, scholarships, financial aid, course selection, testing, and post-secondary planning. Plan and coordinate major Future Pathways events, including the University Fair, Mock Admissions Workshop, and Mini Fair, PSAT administration, and on-campus SAT testing. Coordinate programming during non-instructional hours as needed to meet student needs and maximize access to counseling and workshop opportunities. Serve as an administrative member of the Educational Division. Contribute to the Educational Leadership Team and Student Success Team. Support student success initiatives and academic persistence toward graduation and post-secondary enrollment. Collaborate with faculty, residential life staff, and administrators to address barriers to student success. Participate in strategic planning, policy development, and institutional initiatives. Participate in the Administrator on Duty rotation and respond appropriately to student welfare, safety, and community concerns. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field. Certification in University Advising or a Master's in counseling or Educational Leadership Experience in university counseling, admissions, college access, international education, student success, or a related field. Strong knowledge of university admissions systems in the United States and internationally, including UCAS and other global admissions pathways. Knowledge of financial aid, scholarships, access programs, and post-secondary affordability strategies. Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills. Experience working with diverse student populations in international and multicultural settings. Strong counseling, advising, and relationship-building skills. Experience building and sustaining partnerships with universities, scholarship organizations, and educational programs. Experience supervising personnel and managing operational systems. Demonstrated ability to learn, adapt to, and effectively utilize student information systems, application management systems, learning management systems, and data management platforms in support of student success and program operations. Experience using platforms such as Reach, Veracross, Naviance, Google Workspace, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Calendar, AI-assisted recordkeeping tools, and related technologies to manage student information, communications, workflows, and outcomes.
