Position Title Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Position Number 897537 Position Category Administration School/Division School of Medicine Department Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description Reporting to the Vice Dean and Dean for Education, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs provides leadership for student-focused programs and services within the medical school. This role is responsible for supporting and enhancing the student experience, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment, and facilitating student engagement, professional development, and well-being. The Associate Dean collaborates with school leadership and faculty to advance institutional goals, contribute to accreditation and quality improvement efforts, and represent the school in relevant professional organizations. The individual in this role dedicates up to 0.2 FTE to clinical activities at Northwell Health. A flexible work schedule, including some early mornings and late evenings, may be required to support extended student services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides strategic leadership and oversight for all student affairs functions, including well-being, academic advising, and student life, and ensures rigorous compliance with LCME standards, particularly those related to the learning environment and student mistreatment. Develops and manages efficient administrative systems for high-quality student services, including record-keeping, policy implementation, student organization support, and major event coordination (e.g., orientation, graduation). Leads the design and implementation of comprehensive medical student well-being programs, addressing unique challenges and proactively fosters a positive learning environment. Cultivates a collaborative, relationship-based environment across departments to ensure equitable access to support resources and facilitates timely student intervention. Applies deep knowledge of the medical education continuum to guide students on academic progression, professional identity formation, and navigating training challenges. Researches and implements best practices in student affairs and well-being, ensures programs are innovative and responsive to trends, and represents the institution in relevant national and regional organizations. Evaluates the student experience and learning environment and analyzes outcomes (e.g., retention, performance, satisfaction) to inform strategic recommendations for the Vice Dean and Dean. Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited institution required. At least 5-10 years of significant leadership experience in medical education, student affairs, academic administration, or a related healthcare leadership environment. Approachable leadership style and proven ability to lead effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented setting. Superior organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all learners. Ability to exercise mature, independent judgment. Strong attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent task and priority management skills; ability to oversee multiple initiatives and events concurrently. Extensive computing experience and proficiency with software including Microsoft Office, Google suite, Qualtrics, Zoom, and student information systems. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience advising, mentoring, or providing support services to medical students preferred. Salary/Salary Range $280,000 - $310,000 Additional Information Hofstra University provides the above salary• as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions. Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
