Job Description
Academic Program Manager:
The Academic Program Manager provides technical and professional services for academic program and policy management for public higher education institutions in fulfillment of related statutes and regulations. The manager is responsible for research, development, implementation, assessment, reporting and improvement of programs, regulations, policies and procedures approved or adopted by the Commission on Higher Education. The position will also be part of making informed decisions based on quantitative and qualitative metrics. The Academic Program Manager must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, exercising discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of program responsibilities. The Academic Program Manager will have the opportunity for stakeholder engagement and leadership and helps to frame statewide higher education advancement. This position will be part of the Academic Affairs team consisting of other Academic Program Managers led by the Senior Program Manager in Academic Affairs. Must have knowledge of accreditation standards and processes. Acquired knowledge in higher education and state or federal education agencies. Extensive knowledge of and experience with state and/or federal education acts, regulations, programs and issues. Participates in the evaluation process for new academic programs and changes to existing academic programs at SC public institutions, including sites, delivery modes, objectives and outcomes. Prepares letters as needed and ensures accurate information is provided for updating the program inventory. Manages research, development, implementation, assessment, revision, reporting, and/or approval of academic policies as assigned. Reports on academic issues, developments, concerns, and trends to Commission board and staff, institutions, peer agencies, policymakers, and additional stakeholders. Collaborates with peers and external stakeholders as liaison and/or task force facilitator to conduct studies, research, prepare reports, monitor policy compliance, manage projects, and help ensure accurate and up-to-date record keeping, as directed. Provides support for legislative priorities and projects, including the REACH ACT and SEER. Performs other duties as assigned. Given the complexity of the work, the agency's minimum requirement for this position is an earned master's degree plus commensurate experience in an academic discipline from an accredited U.S. institution (or foreign equivalent).Additional Requirements:
Ability to assess program effectiveness and analyze data. Ability to conduct complex analyses, draw appropriate conclusions, and develop suitable action plans. Ability to communicate effectively through written and oral presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with institutional representatives and other external stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and a wide range of constituencies in the diverse higher education community. Knowledge of curriculum development processes. Position may require overnight travel. Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends. Position requires essential declaration. Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
