Job Description
Newberry College invites applications for a full-time Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and Honors Program. This positionoffers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned educator and academic leader to shape the College's culture of teaching and learning whileproviding vision and leadership for a distinctive, high-impact Honors Program. The successful candidate will be an experiencededucator with demonstrated expertise in pedagogy, faculty development, student engagement, and innovative approaches to undergraduateteaching and learning. The Director will develop and advance a clear vision for the Honors Program that attracts high-achieving students,supports their academic and co-curricular development, and strengthens Newberry College's recruitment and retention efforts. This isa highly collaborative position that works across academic affairs, enrollment management, student life, and other areas of the College. TheDirector will serve as both an advocate for excellent teaching and learning and a visible representative of Newberry College to prospectivestudents, families, and the broader community. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The position requires regular interactionwith students, faculty, prospective students, and families. Occasional evening and weekend work is required, particularly in support ofrecruitment events, the Presidential Scholar Competition, College Preview Days, and other College activities.
Experience working in a small college or liberal arts environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
College Recruitment and Enrollment Engagement Serve as an active participant in Newberry College's studentrecruitment efforts. Recruit prospective students to Newberry College and specifically to the Honors Program. Participate inthe Presidential Scholar Competition , including evaluating written work from applicants and coordinatinginterviews. Participate in College Preview Days , open houses, admitted-student events, and other recruitment and enrollmentinitiatives. Represent Newberry College to prospective students, families, school counselors, and other externalaudiences. Develop compelling messaging and programming that communicate the academic opportunities and distinctive advantages ofNewberry College and its Honors Program. Center for Teaching and Learning Provide strategic leadershipand vision for the Center for Teaching and Learning. Foster a campus culture that values continuous improvement, reflectiveteaching, collaboration, and student success. Collaborate with academic leadership and faculty to identify teaching and learningpriorities and develop initiatives to address them. Develop and implement programs that promote evidence-based and innovativepedagogical practices across disciplines that strengthen teaching effectiveness, student learning, and faculty development. Designand facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, consultations, and other learning opportunities for faculty. Supportfaculty in developing engaging, inclusive, student-centered, and academically rigorous learning experiences. Encourage the effectiveuse of educational technology and emerging teaching practices. Assess the effectiveness and impact of Center for Teaching andLearning programs and initiatives. Honors Program Leadership Develop and implement a distinctive HonorsProgram that attracts academically talented and intellectually curious students. Develop innovative programming, interdisciplinaryexperiences, enrichment opportunities, and academic pathways for Honors students. Recruit, advise, mentor, and support Honorsstudents throughout their Newberry College experience. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to expand Honors courseofferings and opportunities. Build relationships with prospective students, families, high schools, community organizations, andother partners to strengthen the Honors recruitment pipeline. Develop strategies to increase enrollment, engagement, retention, andcompletion within the Honors Program. Evaluate the Honors Program regularly and recommend improvements that enhance its academicquality and visibility. Institutional and Campus Engagement Collaborate with faculty, staff,administrators, and students to advance the College's academic mission. Serve on appropriate College committees and participate ininstitutional initiatives. Build strong relationships across campus and contribute to a collaborative academiccommunity. Participate in orientation, commencement, academic celebrations, and other significant College events asappropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.EDUCATIONAL OR OTHERHIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Required Qualifications Master's degree in education, higher education, arelevant academic discipline, or a related field; terminal degree preferred. Significant experience as an educator. Demonstrated expertisein pedagogy, teaching and learning, and faculty development. Experience with high-impact educational practices, active learning, inclusivepedagogy, assessment, and innovative instructional design. Experience designing, implementing, or leading academic programs or educationalinitiatives. Experience recruiting and mentoring high-achieving undergraduate students. Demonstrated ability to work effectively withfaculty, students, administrators, and prospective students. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Demonstratedability to develop and articulate a compelling vision for an Honors Program. Strong organizational, project management, and leadershipskills. Willingness and ability to actively participate in student recruitment activities. Commitment to the mission and values of NewberryCollege. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral or other terminal degree. Experience directing or developing an HonorsProgram. Experience leading a Center for Teaching and Learning, faculty development initiative, or comparable academic support program.Experience working in a small college or liberal arts environment.
