Job Description

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for the oversight and development of a residential community designed to supportstudents as they continue their transition through college. The RLC fosters a supportive and educational living environment that promotesstudent engagement, belonging, and academic success. This role collaborates closely with student leaders, campus partners, and professionalstaff to support students' personal and community development in alignment with the mission and values of Newberry College. Thisposition is a 12-month, live-in position; Two-bedroom apartment, utilities and internet included. On-call responsibilities required duringthe week and on holidays on a rotating basis. This is a salaried position, although this position requires approximately 37.5 hours perweek, the nature of the position, at times, necessitates unpredictable workweeks including nights and weekends. Some weeks require more than40 hours. This position requires evening and weekend hours. The nature of this position requires that the RLC lives on campus in afurnished, assigned house/apartment located within or near the area of responsibility.
JOB FUNCTIONS
CommunityDevelopment Foster a welcoming and inclusive community for students, supporting their continued development and connection tocampus. Plan and implement intentional programs and initiatives that encourage student involvement, leadership, and academicpersistence. Maintain a level of community adherence to college policies. Mediate roommate and community conflicts andproactively address student concerns.
Staff Supervision and Training:
Recruit, train, and supervise a team ofResident Assistants (RAs). Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities. Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Assist in theadministration of residence hall operations, including room assignments and maintenance requests. Maintain accurate recordsrelated to incidents, programs, and student conduct. Including assisting in certain conduct processes and cases. Manage budgetsfor programming and hall activities. Student Support Serve as a resource for students regarding academic,personal, and social issues. Collaborate with counseling services and the Center for Student Success to support studentwell-being. Develop and maintain relationships with students to foster trust and engagement. Policy Implementation Enforce college policies and procedures related to residence life and college policies. Conduct regularassessments of the living environment and recommend improvements. Prepare reports on residence life activities and studentengagement for college administration.
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Master'sdegree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field preferred; bachelor's degree required. Experience in residence life, studentaffairs, or related fields. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations. Crisismanagement and conflict resolution skills. Understanding of developmental needs and challenges specific to second-year college students.
