Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, or a related field such as counseling, student personnel, or leadership studies. Ability to lead and advise students leaders effectively. Ability to develop and lead teams, create and manage budgets, develop and execute fundraising efforts, plan strategically, assess and evaluate programs and services. Understanding of and vision for the important role student government plays in promoting an engaged student body. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education administration, or a related field such as counseling, student personnel, or leadership studies. Previous experience advising a student government association, student governing body, or similarly complex student-led organization. Experience working within a large state institution and collaborating with senior university leadership. Experience navigating organizational politics and advising student leaders in highly visible leadership roles. The Senior Coordinator for Student Government is a member of the Leadership & Service unit within the Department of Student Involvement & Engagement. This position serves as the primary advisor to Student Government (SG) and provides leadership development, organizational advising, and administrative support to each of SG's branches and services. The position reports directly to the Leadership & Service unit lead and maintains a close collaborative relationship with the Executive Director for Student Involvement & Engagement to ensure alignment with departmental priorities, university initiatives, and student success outcomes. The Senior Coordinator works closely with student leaders, university administrators, faculty, and staff to foster meaningful student engagement, effective governance, and student leadership development.
Job Duties:
The Senior Coordinator for Student Government in the department of Student Involvement & Engagement is responsible for: Serve as primary advisor to Student Government, provide advising support to the Executive Cabinet and Judicial and Legislative Branches. Advising may include, but is not limited to, leadership development, training and development, transition planning, risk management, programming and logistics of events, recruitment and retention, evaluation of programs, and other tasks as required by the student position, group, or department. Co-advise the Student Body President, Vice President, and Chief of Staff alongside the Executive Director for Student Involvement & Engagement. Regularly attend a variety of weekly meetings and events with student leaders, some of which are held after regular business hours. Assist with the programming and other initiatives associated with Student Government, SGA Committees, Freshman Council, and other Student Government services. Support students with policy compliance, risk management, budget management, and other organizational oversight needs. Build and maintain productive relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, and student leaders to support effective shared governance and student advocacy. Maintain regular communication and collaboration with Graduate House and Texas State - Round Rock student leaders, advisors, and support staff. Use assessment data and feedback from students and university stakeholders to continuously improve programs to meet current student needs. Prepare student leaders to travel to and serve on system-wide boards and committees. Maintain regular communication and collaboration with the Leadership & Service unit lead and the Executive Director for Student Involvement & Engagement regarding Student Government operations, emerging student issues, university initiatives, and student leadership development opportunities. May supervise graduate or undergraduate student workers. Serve as a member of the Leadership & Service unit and contribute to departmental initiatives, programs, assessment efforts, and strategic priorities within Student Involvement & Engagement.
