We're a friendly place where there's always someone to talk to and people volunteer with a smile. Shalom School is our PreK-6 religious education program. Our goal is to build community, share our values, and provide children with knowledge and skills to lead an active Jewish life. Kids look forward to annual traditions such as our Chanukah party, Purim Carnival, Model Seder, and a "shul-in" retreat for 3rd-6th graders. Many of our graduates come back as teen madrichim. Shalom School is growing and we are looking for several new teachers for our Sunday morning program. Next year, we will have a split-session schedule (different start/end times for different grades) which lets you work either 4 hours (teach 2 classes) or 2 hours (teach 1 class) depending on your needs. In addition, there are opportunities for Hebrew tutoring (in person and on Zoom) and other informal education/youth work. Teachers should have some Judaic knowledge, be willing to plan and supervise a class, and desire to make class fun and educational as appropriate for a modern Jewish congregation. Teachers are expected to follow school policies and help the Temple be a safe place for all children. Prior experience working with children is preferred. College students and current/prospective TBS members are encouraged to apply. Temple Beth Shalom is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. Rabbi Jessica Lowenthal, ordained by Hebrew College and a graduate of Brandeis' Hornstein Program, has been rabbi since 2019.
