A History or Social Studies Teacher teaches in the social studies fields for elementary to secondary school students. Elementary school teaching focuses on general social studies, with history overview courses starting in middle school. High school focuses on specific courses of study, such as Modern US History. Fields include history, geography, government, and current events.
To be determined based on availability We are seeking an engaging, knowledgeable History and Government teacher to provide in-home instruction for two homeschool students in 6th and 9th grade. The ideal candidate will teach history through a factual, balanced, and intellectually rigorous lens—grounded in primary sources, historical context, constitutional principles, and open discussion. The classroom should remain politically neutral and focused on education rather than activism or personal ideology. Areas of Instruction United States and world history American government and civics The U.S. Constitution and founding documents Economics and free-market principles Geography and current events Research, writing, debate, and critical thinking Age-appropriate coursework tailored to each student Responsibilities Develop structured, engaging lessons for both grade levels Encourage students to examine multiple perspectives and draw evidence-based conclusions Use primary sources, classic texts, documentaries, and hands-on projects Assign and evaluate written work, presentations, and assessments Track progress and communicate regularly with the family Foster respectful discussion, independent thought, and civic literacy Qualifications Bachelor's degree in History, Political Science, Education, or a related field preferred Prior teaching, tutoring, or homeschool experience Strong knowledge of American history, world history, government, and the Constitution Comfortable teaching from a traditional, academically focused perspective Able to keep personal political beliefs separate from instruction Dependable, organized, engaging, and confident working with different grade levels Background check and references required This position is ideal for an educator who values historical accuracy, intellectual independence, civil discourse, personal responsibility, and a strong understanding of America's founding principles.
