Job Description

Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union seeks a passionate and dedicated Limited Term 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher to join our team of collaborative and enthusiastic staff at Flood Brook School for the latter half of the 2026/2027 school year! Our middle school program embraces early adolescence as a vibrant time of exploration and self-discovery. We are seeking an educator who is deeply committed to championing the social-emotional well-being of our students while empowering them to think critically, question assumptions, and debate complex global issues.

In this position, the Teacher will foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment and a classroom community that serves as a launching pad for curiosity. The Teacher will facilitate engaging, proficiency- and inquiry-based learning experiences where students analyze primary sources and investigate the ideas, events, and systems that shape our modern world. Through robust civic discussions and evidence-based writing, the Teacher will inspire students to explore diverse perspectives and connect the curriculum to their own lives.

Rooted in our supportive, close-knit community, the Teacher will guide students to connect global concepts to local action, cultivating a strong sense of civic responsibility. By blending rigorous academic inquiry with robust social-emotional support and bridging history with current events, the Teacher will ensure each student feels valued, known, intellectually challenged, encouraged to take academic risks, and confident in discovering their voices as informed citizens and engaged community members.

The Teacher is responsible for delivering learning opportunities that develop students' informational, critical, technological, and media literacies, supervising and assessing student performance, and collaborating with content/grade-level colleagues to ensure transferable skill development in accordance with district ends policies.

Applicants are expected to know current instructional research and evidence-based instructional practices. Strong candidates will demonstrate a student-centered approach, exemplary oral and written communication skills, strong relationship building skills with students, and a commitment to working collaboratively with all colleagues. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience delivering rich social studies learning experiences to middle school students in a public school setting.

The anticipated dates of employment are 1/13/27 through 6/10/27, following the school calendar.
