Position Summary The Librarian supports a vibrant, child-centered learning community serving students from toddler through sixth grade. Rooted in Montessori philosophy, the librarian curates an inclusive, developmentally appropriate collection; fosters a love of reading, inquiry, and research; and partners with classroom guides to integrate library resources into the curriculum. The librarian teaches classes daily to K-6th students based on a curriculum focused on reading literacy and research skills. The Librarian creates a welcoming, orderly, and intellectually rich library environment that encourages independence, curiosity, and respect for materials. This is a full-tme position of approximately 32-hours a week. Responsibilities Design and implement a developmentally appropriate library program aligned with Montessori principles for preschoolers through upper elementary students. Introduce students to literature, information literacy, and research skills in age-appropriate ways that support independence and choice. Acquire books, catalog, process, and continuously improve a diverse collection of fiction, nonfiction, and reference materials that support Montessori curriculum areas, including language, cultural studies, science, geography, history, and the arts. Collaborate with classroom guides to support classroom work, research projects, and thematic studies. Support students in selecting materials that reflect a wide range of cultures, identities, perspectives, and reading levels. Create and maintain an orderly, welcoming library space that reflects Montessori values of beauty, accessibility, and care of the environment. Teach and model respectful use and care of shared materials. Teach upper elementary students how to use citations, paraphrase, and refrain from plagiarism. Manage circulation, cataloging, inventory, and basic library systems. Support school-wide literacy initiatives, author visits, book fairs, and community reading events as appropriate. Support elementary beforecare starting at 7:30am Experience and Professional Competencies Previous librarian experience Training in interventional reading, like Orton-Gillingham Elementary teaching Culturally competent and culturally aware of the curriculum taught A bachelor's degree Experience with Follett Destiny library management system Daycroft School is committed to an inclusive program and a diverse faculty and student body.
