Benefit Information For details regarding benefits offered by County of Los Angeles, please click here: Benefits In the role of Library Assistant I, you will: Supervise subordinate staff in community libraries or regional offices. Provide customer service to individuals by locating books; finding reference materials using online reference services; providing information regarding specialized programs; and answering simple reference questions. Maintain library records regarding inter-library loan requests, circulation, registration, book stock, literacy programs, business matters, and the collection of fine and fees. Assist in collection maintenance by editing or revising incorrect item records, searching for information concerning new items, old or damaged items, and withdrawals of materials. Assist in reporting safety hazards and security incidents to facilities management. Maintain statistical records and prepares reports as assigned. Drive a Bookmobile to deliver essential library services to scheduled locations, as needed. Act as a timekeeper for libraries or regional offices, as needed. There are three (3) options to qualify: Option 1: Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited institution- , including at least 6 semester credits or 9 quarter units in library technical coursework

Special Requirement Information:
No Out-of-Class experience or withhold will be allowed. - Technical library coursework is defined as college-level coursework in library and information science, including but not limited to cataloging, and classification, reference and information services, collection development, circulation procedures and library systems or automated library technologies.
- Full-time experience is evaluated on a basis of a 40-hour workweek. Experience earned in a part-time position will receive prorated credit consistent with the actual hours worked on a regular basis.
- Clerical work experience is defined as performing duties such as data entry, answering phone calls, records and document filings in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Technical work experience requires specialized knowledge and manual skill of one or more specialized library functions such as circulation, acquisition, cataloging, special programs, and the physical upkeep of library and inventory materials.
- A public library is a publicly funded and officially recognized institution, established by a government entity or accredited educational institution that provides free and equitable access to informational, educational, cultural, and recreational resources and services for all members of the public within a designated geographical area.
