Statesboro Regional Public Libraries Position Description Position Title:
Library Assistant Classification:
FLSA Non-exempt, 40 hrs/week Reports to: Library Manager Overall Responsibility The Library Assistant supports the day-to-day operation of the Library. Library Assistants work at the service desk, plan programming, shelve materials, provide computer assistance, and help users find library materials. All staff members are guided by policies formulated by regional and local library boards and administered by the Statesboro Regional Public Libraries. Essential Position Functions Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates library programming with the guidance of management and Regional staff Creates promotional materials for library programs and events Works at service desks to provide patron services and support Provides computer assistance to patrons Provides Readers' Advisory and Reference service Assists in the operation and maintenance of the library building Shelves materials and keeps collection in order Participates in local and Regional staff training events. Performs other duties as assigned and required by the needs of the organization. Required Qualifications Education, Training and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Agree to submit to a background check and have results that meet the expectations of the employer.
Knowledge of computers, current information technologies, social networking, and the Internet. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to meet the work schedule of the job. Ability to motivate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, volunteers, other community agencies and library users. Ability to set goals and meet deadlines. Ability to use tact and diplomacy in working with staff, and the public. Able to follow established policies and procedures. Access to a reliable means of personal transportation.
Flexibility:
ability to return to interrupted tasks and prioritize needs, duties, and activities. Obtain and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Customer Service and/or Library experience Experience with PINES Experience with program or event planning Physical Skills Ability to sit or stand and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily. Ability to lift and move up to forty (40) pounds and push one hundred (100) pounds, occasionally. Ability to travel. Training, Supervision, and Evaluation The Library Assistant is supervised and evaluated by the Library Manager. Limited exceptions apply. In FY 2026 employees contribute 6.00% of their gross salary each pay period. The current employer match is 21.91%.
