Posting Details Classification Information FLSA Non-Exempt Position Information Position Title Instructional Support Assistant Position Number FS4-LIB Position Type Full Time Leave Format Staff Shift Day/Evening Supervisor Title Director of Library Services Location Main Campus (Dobson) Job Description - Summary The Instructional Support Assistant provides cross-functional support for library and learning resources, training, digital accessibility, and technology. The position provides frontline assistance to library users, basic technology training support, routine technical support, and accessible document remediation. Working collaboratively with Library Services, Training and User Support, and technology support, the position provides timely and consistent support and refers advanced or specialized needs to the appropriate staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with routine library operations and technology support, including opening and closing the library as assigned, to maintain effective services for students and employees. Catalog library materials in the integrated library system to support accurate records and access to the collection. Coordinate interlibrary loan requests. Locate and request materials, prepare items for mailing, receive incoming materials, and notify patrons when requested items are available. Provide frontline library and learning-resource assistance to students, employees, and community patrons, including access to library databases, electronic resources, research tools, and other learning materials. Provide basic research and resource assistance, and refer advanced research needs to appropriate library personnel. Coordinate the Surry County Digital Heritage project, the Genealogy Room, and College Archives services. Conduct part-time employee technology orientations and provide backup support for new employee technology orientations as needed to ensure employees receive required technology information promptly. Assist with program-specific technology orientations, including delivery of multiple or concurrent orientation sessions across campus locations. Update and maintain tutorials, quick-reference guides, FAQs, and other technology support resources. Coordinate scheduling and user orientation for the college's Green Room and provide basic assistance with Green Room technology and equipment. Assisting users with routine technology questions and basic troubleshooting, and referring advanced issues to appropriate IT or instructional technology personnel. Assist faculty and staff with remediation of accessible digital documents and materials using established accessibility standards, tools, and college procedures. Participate in cross-training to provide effective backup coverage across assigned instructional, technology, and learning-support functions. Perform other related duties as required to support the college's instructional, technology, and learning-resource services. Required Qualifications Associate's degree, experience in a public service environment, experience with MS Office software, ability to work independently and with others, ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree, experience in a community college learning resource center or other library; familiarity with automated library systems and genealogical research.
