Performs intermediate technical work assisting in the installation and maintenance of technology equipment, software programs, and operating systems throughout the library system. Performs copy cataloging of library materials using bibliographic standards and formats including AACR2, RDA and MARC format. Provides internal and external customer service working with other colleagues and the public. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Technical Services Librarian. Work Environment:
This role is based primarily in a library setting, with occasional off-site events or community engagements. This position requires interaction with a diverse range of community members and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Qualification Requirements T o perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position Responsibilities Performs maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting for library system technology, including but not limited to, public and staff PCs, payment/print kiosks, laptops, tablets, printers/copiers/scanners. Provides technical training, assistance, instruction, and guidance for library technology to both staff and patrons. Collaborates with County ITS and library vendors for technical support, troubleshooting and implementation of new hardware and/or software. On-call every other weekend for technology/computer support. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of Integrated Library System (ILS) and assists Technical Services Librarian with implementation of ILS upgrades. Performs copy cataloging of library materials using bibliographic standards and formats including AACR2, RDA, and MARC. Processes all library materials added to and withdrawn from the library collection. Unpacks, receipts, and invoices large shipments of library materials weighing approximately 20-50 lbs. Assists Technical Services Librarian with database management of bibliographic, item, and patron records. Repairs all library material formats. Performs frontline customer service in the other library departments such as Public Services, Youth services and other branch locations as needed. Attends workshops, webinars, and training as needed or required to acquire or maintain in-depth knowledge of cataloging, library supported software, equipment, and new technology Inventories technology/computer related equipment and supplies. Assists with annual inventory at each library branch, if needed. Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteered. All other duties as assigned and/or needed. Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the operation and capabilities of technology equipment; thorough knowledge of hardware and software procedures and techniques; general knowledge of systems analysis and networking; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to analyze software programs and make adjustments; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and user departments. Education, Experience, and Special Requirements Associate degree in library science and/or information science or related field with one to two years of cataloging and library experience; and moderate experience in computer support or any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesSpecial Requirements:
Valid drivers license. On-call every other weekend for technology/computer support. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget and market considerations. Dental Insurance Dental insurance is provided by Delta Dental to full-time employees and covers a percentage of basic to major dental procedures, including orthodontia for children and adults. Vision Insurance Vision insurance is provided by MetLife to full-time employees and covers a variety of materials (contacts and glasses frames/lenses) and an annual eye exam. North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit. NC401k The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%. Vacation Leave Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases. Sick Leave Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year. Paid Holidays County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary. ComPsych Mental Health Services The County provides Mental Health and Life Services through ComPsych to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as counseling, crisis support, work-life resources, legal and financial consultations, and organizational support tools.
