Job Description

At the MidPointe Library System, our mission is to enrich our community through access and experiences. We do that by connecting a curious community to our library services and strive to provide a positive learning experience. Our Library On Wheels (LOW) provides library services outside of our buildings, such as on our bookmobile, providing our patrons with excellent customer service by giving reading recommendations; providing computer assistance; creating library cards; assisting patrons with check in and check out; and giving instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, e-reader tablets and other online & digital resources. As a library associate you'll also drive the 30' bookmobile & other LOW fleet vehicles (no CDL license is needed), process holds and reserves; look up materials; sort; shelve; pull holds; and use lists to pull materials.
To be successful you:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability on the library's insurance. No CDL license is needed. Must be able to safely drive, ride, and work in all library fleet vehicles, including the 30' bookmobile, as well as operate all the controls on all of the vehicles. Driver training is provided. Must be friendly, approachable, and provide a positive experience to patrons. Must have excellent customer service, a strong service ethic, excellent problem solving skills, adapt rapidly to change, and thrive in a busy environment. Must have computer experience that includes MS Office, and the Internet. Need to be able to independently (and with others), quickly, and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations, and be able to prioritize and handle confidential information. Have a good knowledge of literature that appeals to children, teens, and adults. Must be able to learn and carry out the responsibilities of the position. Must be able to effectively read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment, including all library fleet vehicles, that will enable assurance of position requirements. When necessary, must shovel snow, and empty trash. Must have sufficient visual acuity to safely drive all library vehicles, have clarity of speech and hearing, and respond effectively to alarms, traffic, etc. Must be able to regularly move up to 30 pounds of library materials up and down vehicle steps; move crates that could weigh up to 50 pounds when full on and off all library vehicles; and move book carts that, when full, could weigh up to 200+ pounds. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors and in areas that contain disinfectant odors, dust, and other possible allergens. Regular and predictable physical attendance and punctuality is required. We have a full-time opening for a customer-oriented individual who likes to be out and about in the community visiting schools & assisted living centers, and participating in neighborhood community events and parades. To thrive in this environment, you need customer service, but you don't need library experience , we can teach you!
HOURS :
40 hours per week that includes days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holiday's.
A sample schedule is:
M 8:00-4:30 pm; T 8:00-4:30 pm; W 08:00 - 4:30pm; Th 9:30-7:00pm; F off; Sat 8:00-4:30pm; Sun off

SALARY:
The pay range for this job is $17.00 - $24.70 per hour. The pay rate depends on job factors such as experience, education, job skills, languages spoken and any certifications.
