Job Description

Library Assistant - Circulation Summary The Library Assistant-Circulation handles patron-facing circulation functions and workroom operations. Schedule Up to 24 hours per week Flexible Schedule Occasional Saturdays and evenings are required based on the needs of the Library Set hours are not guaranteed and may vary based on the needs of the library. Essential Functions Register new library patrons and issue library cards Facilitate circulation functions in-person or by phone Check in and sort books and other media and empty book drops Assist patrons with printing, copying, and scanning documents, and troubleshoot public computer problems Promote and instruct patrons in the use of library e-resources Manage study room usage Help patrons identify and acquire desired material through readers advisory, holds, and Interlibrary Loan Accurately record cash receipts and other monetary transactions at desk Assist with volunteer training and assigning tasks Promote a pleasant, welcoming, and organized atmosphere in the library for staff and patrons Enforce the Library's Code of Conduct Policy Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior in all library matters Other Functions Perform building opening and closing procedures Shelving books and media Book repair Complete required continuing education Perform other duties as assigned Physical Requirements Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently Ability to lift 30 pounds, push/pull carts/crates weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high as well as low shelves Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers Ability to complete keyboard entry Ability to talk, hear, and see Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Education and Experience Associate's or bachelor's degree Ability to speak a language in addition to English Additional Eligibility Requirements Must pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
