Circulation Assistant, Part-Time, Cumberland Public Library (RI) (Cumberland, RI)

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Attends circulation desk: checks in, checks out, renews books and other library materials; inspects material for damage and assesses charges; answers telephone and refers calls; registers new patrons, reserves books and museum passes.
  • Assists patrons in use of on-line computer catalogs; helps to locate materials; explains library rules and regulations.
  • Operates computers and computer equipment: enters data, modifies records, deletes outdated information, accesses files in the daily exercise of duties.
  • Provides reader's advisory and basic ready reference assistance. Offers Inter-library Loan services when appropriate.
  • Files forms and other records according to established library procedure.
  • Runs daily circulation reports including expired holds notices and new holds lists.
HOURS AND PAY
  • The position is 19.5 hour per week with a rotating weekend schedule and two evenings per week required.
  • At least one Sunday per month (October to May) is also required (in addition to that week's 19.5 hours) and paid at a premium rate.
  • Starting pay is $18.16 per hour.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously with the public.
  • Ability to prioritize and to juggle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Minimum of a High School diploma required. College courses or degree preferred.
