Job Description

UPPER SCHOOL MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTOR
Laguna Blanca School is a college preparatory, coeducational day school located on two campuses in Santa Barbara, California. Grades EK-4 are located on a quaint campus in Montecito, while Grades 5-12 are located on Laguna's historic campus in idyllic Hope Ranch. Laguna Blanca emphasizes its core values of scholarship, character, balance, and community in its programs. Laguna Blanca School is seeking a passionate and experienced Upper School Math Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. This role offers the opportunity to teach a range of courses from Algebra 1 through AP Calculus and/or AP Statistics, contribute to curriculum development, and support the academic and personal growth of our students in a collaborative, student-centered environment. Applications will not be considered complete until all required items are received. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Teach five classes of Upper School Math. Have the ability to teach math classes from Algebra 1 through AP Calculus, Data Science, and/or AP Statistics, with a willingness to teach a Middle School class if necessary. Continually develop and refine the school's math curriculum. Demonstrate excellent proficiency in content area and ability to collaborate with the department on curriculum and department goals. Represent the school and Math Department at Open Houses, and admissions/community events. Possess knowledge of inquiry-based pedagogy including project-based learning and other progressive approaches. Serve as a member of the Mathematics Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department. Have knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and commitment to ongoing growth in this area. Serve as an Upper School advisor, overseeing the academic and social growth of all advisees. Serve as a member of the applicable grade-level team(s) of teachers meeting on a regular basis to plan, develop, and coordinate student support in alignment with the mission of the school. Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Head of School and the Upper School and Middle School division heads. Communicate progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or Head of School. Discuss academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise. Maintain required documentation for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records. Required Skills & Abilities Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Creative analytical and problem-solving skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or related software Education And Experience A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or related field; Masters Degree highly preferred. California Teaching Credential highly preferred. Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required. Prior 3-5 years of teaching experience is highly preferred. Knowledge of the current theories, techniques, and methodologies of Mathematics and other STEM fields. Provide timely feedback and communicate effectively with students and families about classroom activities and student progress, including during conferences, via report card narratives, and by maintaining an accurate gradebook. Identify and support students' social, emotional, and behavior learning needs. Demonstrate cultural competency in their teaching, teamwork, and leadership ability. Are committed to the values and the ongoing work of inclusion and belonging. Encourage and maintain a culture of mutual respect and equitable practice, both in the classroom and in the school community. Participate as an ambassador of the school to build and support relationships with all key constituents. This support includes participating in a range of school functions including but not limited to admission, alumni, and family events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency Occasionally bend, stoop, squat and lift up to 40 lbs as part of job duties Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for school-related events or projects Have a current TB Assessment Must provide a clear fingerprint test and background check Have CPR and First Aid certifications or have the ability to become certified upon employment

COMPENSATION
Salary range $55,000-$117,000 depending on experience and credentials. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement.
