Job Description

The Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology invites applications for a non-tenure track, Visiting Instructor, to start in August 2026. This is a 9 months contract position. Candidates are expected to show an outstanding record, strong interest, and an ability to teach a diverse student body. The Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering is part of the College of Engineering and Science - Florida Tech's largest college and is committed to creating and maintaining a culture of excellence in teaching and research, with the goal of setting the stage for research-based and innovative pedagogies that foster student engagement, learning, and success. We seek individuals with expertise and interest in instruction and curriculum design for mathematics courses with an ability to clearly communicate in the classroom with a good understanding of curricular objectives and learner's needs and abilities. The position requires teaching up to four courses per semester. Having an expertise in developing or implementing teaching innovation tools is a plus.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach up to four undergraduate courses per semester, utilizing dynamic and modern instructional techniques to facilitate student comprehension and engagement.
  • Integrate technology, such as interactive software and digital resources, to enhance the learning experience and promote active participation.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical exploration.
  • Mentor and advise students, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their academic and career goals.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field. Demonstrated expertise in teaching Calculus classes to students in all engineering and science majors at the undergraduate level, with a commitment to excellence in pedagogy. Proficiency in utilizing technology, including interactive whiteboards, graphing calculators, mathematical software (e.g., MATLAB, Python), and online learning platforms. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
