REVIEW TEAM

MATHEMATICS - PHASE 2

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary function of the Curriculum Review Team is to ensure that the district's PreK-12 mathematics program provides equitable, rigorous, and coherent learning experiences for every student. The Team will assess the effectiveness and coherence of mathematics curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. The Team will embed competencies from the BPS Vision of a Graduate (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship) and the MA Framework's Eight Standards for Mathematical Practices into the curriculum, while incorporating current research and best practices in mathematics education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of this work, the team will conduct a comprehensive self-study of the PreK-12 mathematics program to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for growth across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning. Team members will attend 6-8 Math Curriculum Review Team Meetings after school hours (for approximately 1.5 hours, maximum once/month) with additional tasks outside of the contractual day, not to exceed 8 additional hours.

The team will:

Analyze student achievement and other relevant student learning data to identify patterns, strengths, and areas of need. Inventory current mathematics curriculum materials, instructional practices, and resources across grades K-12 to understand the current state of the program. Conduct an alignment review of curriculum, instruction, and learning expectations across grade levels and with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Gather qualitative perspectives from educators and families to better understand experiences, strengths, challenges, and needs related to mathematics learning. Synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings to identify and prioritize the highest-leverage areas for improvement. Use these identified priorities to develop a theory of action that will guide recommendations and future planning for the district's mathematics program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a current staff member of the Bellingham Public Schools. Team members will bring diverse perspectives and work collaboratively to complete the next phase of the curriculum review process. The team will consist of a representative group of PreK-12 educators.

SALARY:

$33 per hour stipend for meetings and work related to the review that occurs outside of the contracted day.
