Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree + 18 content area hours from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies Use curriculum and instruction guides to serve as the framework from which a teacher shall develop units of study, individual lesson plans, and approaches to instruction that shall serve the students particular needs at a particular time. Teach the TEKS/SE as set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the district curriculum and present the curriculum in accordance with TEA and district guidelines, board policy, and administrative regulations. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Align resources to the District curriculum. Maintain consistency between the written, taught and tested curriculum. Utilize the district's curriculum and instructional guides as the primary source of instructional direction. Analyze and interpret student assessment data to diagnose each student's learning in order to differentiate instruction to meet each student's instructional needs. Incorporate effective research-based instructional strategies in the teaching of the curriculum. Guarantee equal access to the curriculum and equitable delivery to each student. Conduct an assessment of the student's learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Student Growth and Development Assure student success as determined by the state and district curriculum (TEKS/SE) and assessments (STAAR, benchmark tests, and teacher assessment). Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Communication Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Encourage parents to support student learning. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Adhere to the district's organizational chart in communication with all constituents. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement. Other Adhere to Texas school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations. Perform any duties as assigned by the Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy. Evaluation will be completed in accordance with regulations and procedures of the Texas Teacher Appraisal System.
