Non-Exempt Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date. Job Summary Learning Assistants are expected to attend an assigned section of a math class to assist students with activities, attend paid trainings, tutor students outside of class, attend weekly meetings with other SLCC Learning Assistants, and attend a weekly pedagogy class. Students may set their own schedule for tutoring students outside of class time. Expected weekly hours are 10-15. Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Attend classes with students to establish connection/bonding with the instructors and the students.

Assist with classroom activities.

Provie quality learning assistance to students enrolled in an assigned section of a math class.

Assist instructors with one-on-one planning meetings to ensure that students are remaining engaged and absorbing material.

Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, and build confidence in students.

Work with students in groups providing support and structure in project-based assignments and work with math manipulative classroom aides.

Teach students study skills, note-taking techniques, and test-taking strategies as needed.

Participate in training, development opportunities, and other events when available.

Maintain regular communication with your supervisor and other Learning Assistants.

Attend required weekly meeting with the instructor(s) and other Learning Assistants.

Minimum qualifications

Passed math course in which applicant is applying to be a Learning Assistant or placed into a higher math course.

Maintain a minimum of 2.75 GPA

Preferred Qualifications

First-generation college student (neither parent has earned a 4-year degree)

Applicant has recently taken the math class in which they are applying to be a Learning Assistant at SLCC.

Applicant has attended SLCC for at least one semester.
