Substitute Academic Success Educators The St. James Performance Academy Part-Time / On-Call The St. James Performance Academy is seeking dependable and professional Substitute Teachers to support our student-athletes when regular educators are absent. This role provides instructional continuity, maintains classroom expectations, and supports students in achieving academic success within an elite athletic performance environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and committed to fostering a structured, engaging, and student-centered learning experience. Position Overview The Substitute Educator is responsible for maintaining a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment when the Academic Success Educator (ASE) is absent. Working within an elite performance academy, the Substitute Teacher supports the academic development of student-athletes while upholding the Academy's high standards for academic excellence, professionalism, accountability, and student-athlete success. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management, adaptability, communication skills, and a commitment to supporting student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Classroom Supervision:

Implement assigned lesson plans, facilitate learning activities, and maintain a productive classroom environment in the absence of the ASE.

Academic Support:

Provide guidance to student-athletes in completing assignments, accessing learning resources, and maintaining academic progress.

Student-Athlete Accountability:

Reinforce Academy expectations related to attendance, engagement, academic integrity, professionalism, and learning commitments.

Classroom Management:

Establish a respectful, structured, and positive learning environment that promotes student responsibility and focus.

Communication & Reporting:

Document attendance, student participation, completed assignments, and relevant classroom concerns for the ASE and academic leadership.

Academic & Athletic Alignment:

Understand the demands of an elite performance environment and support student-athletes in managing their academic responsibilities alongside training, competition, and travel.

Technology & Learning Platforms:

Utilize Academy-approved technology, digital learning platforms, and instructional resources to support continuity of learning.

Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with Academic Success Educators, coaches, and academic leadership to ensure student-athletes receive consistent academic support. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred. Prior teaching, substitute teaching, tutoring, coaching, or youth development experience preferred. Strong classroom management and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to follow lesson plans and adapt to different grade levels and learning needs. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and sound judgment. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance academic and athletic environment. Commitment to student confidentiality, safety, and academic integrity. Must meet all applicable background screening and Academy employment requirements.
