Job Description
Golden Sunshine Academy - Irvine, CA Part-Time | After-School & Weekend Golden Sunshine Academy is seeking an experienced and engaging English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to teach students from elementary through high school in small-group and 1-on-1 settings. We are especially interested in current or former teachers with experience in Orange County public or private schools who are familiar with local curriculum standards, academic expectations, and student needs. Responsibilities Teach English Language Arts to elementary, middle, and/or high school students Provide instruction in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and literature Develop students' skills in: Paragraph and essay writing Narrative, informative, and argumentative writing Textual analysis and evidence-based writing Critical reading and literary analysis Research and academic writing Support students with school coursework and advanced academic preparation Provide individualized feedback on student writing Develop structured lessons appropriate to students' grade levels and abilities Communicate student progress and learning needs with the Academy Prepare advanced students for Honors English, AP English Language, and AP English Literature , when qualified Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Literature, Education, Writing, or a related field Strong background in English Language Arts instruction Experience teaching elementary, middle school, and/or high school students Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong understanding of reading and writing development Ability to teach students at different academic levels Strongly Preferred Current or former teacher at an Orange County public or private school Familiarity with Irvine / Orange County school curricula and academic expectations California teaching credential Experience teaching Honors or AP English Experience with advanced reading and writing instruction Experience working with GATE/advanced learners Knowledge of Common Core ELA standards Experience preparing students for writing competitions, academic contests, or publication is a plus Grade Levels Elementary School (Grades 1-6) Reading Vocabulary Grammar Writing Reading Comprehension Middle School (Grades 6-8) Literature Essay Writing Grammar Analytical Reading Argumentative Writing High School (Grades 9-12) Literary Analysis Academic Writing Honors English AP English Language AP English Literature Teachers do not necessarily need to teach all grade levels . Candidates with strong expertise in one or more grade ranges are encouraged to apply. Schedule Part-time. Classes are primarily offered weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends . Schedule can be arranged based on teacher availability. Location Golden Sunshine Academy Irvine, California Compensation Competitive hourly compensation based on education, teaching experience, credentials, and course level.
