About the Role After School Specials LLC is hiring a Part-Time Gardening & STEAM Instructor to lead engaging, hands-on enrichment classes for elementary students in the Napa Valley area. This role combines gardening, nature exploration, science, and hands-on STEAM activities . Students may explore topics such as plant growth, soil, seeds, insects, ecosystems, sustainability, simple experiments, and creative garden-based projects. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is comfortable leading outdoor and hands-on activities, and can make gardening and science approachable and fun. You do not need to be a professional gardener or horticulturist. We are looking for someone who is reliable, enthusiastic, comfortable learning the curriculum, and able to guide elementary students through structured activities. What You'll Teach Lessons may include: Planting seeds and seedlings Understanding plant parts and life cycles Soil exploration Composting and decomposition Pollinators and beneficial insects Garden ecosystems Watering and plant care Sustainability and environmental awareness Weather and seasonal changes Simple science experiments connected to gardening Hands-on STEAM challenges Nature observation and journaling Creative garden projects Basic engineering challenges using natural materials The program is designed to be interactive, project-based, and age-appropriate for elementary students. What You'll Do Lead hands-on gardening and STEAM enrichment classes Guide students through planting, observing, experimenting, and building activities Demonstrate projects and gardening techniques step by step Help students safely use age-appropriate gardening tools and materials Encourage curiosity, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving Teach basic science concepts through real-world garden activities Support students during outdoor and indoor activities Follow provided lesson plans and curriculum Review lesson materials before class Prepare activity materials before students arrive Assist with setup and cleanup Maintain a safe, positive, and organized learning environment Communicate with the program team regarding attendance, class progress, and supply needs What We Provide After School Specials LLC provides: Curriculum and lesson plans Activity instructions Teaching resources Gardening and STEAM materials Program support and guidance You are not expected to build the curriculum from scratch . Instructors should review the provided lesson before each class and come prepared to demonstrate the activity clearly. Qualifications Enjoy working with elementary-age students Comfortable leading hands-on and outdoor activities Interested in gardening, plants, science, or environmental education Able to follow structured curriculum and lesson plans Patient and encouraging with children Strong communication skills Comfortable managing a small group of students Dependable and punctual Able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule Able to reliably commute to school sites in the Napa Valley area Comfortable working outdoors when weather permits Must complete required background screening and school clearance requirements Previous experience in gardening, horticulture, environmental education, farming, science instruction, camps, teaching, tutoring, or youth programs is a plus, but not required. Schedule We currently have weekday after-school gardening and STEAM opportunities in the Napa Valley area . Schedules vary by school site, and additional classes may be available depending on your availability.
