Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema-inspired after-school music program that supports the social-emotional and academic growth of children in under-resourced communities through high-quality music instruction, nutritious snacks, and homework support. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our work, nurturing every child as both an individual and a musician.

JOB SUMMARY

Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable After-School Program Teacher to help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students in grades 6-8. Working closely with the Middle School Program Coordinator, the After-School Program Teacher will help plan and lead meaningful activities that keep middle school students active, connected, and engaged throughout the afternoon. Activities may include music production, guitar, games and recreation, enrichment activities, homework support, team-building, social-emotional learning, and opportunities for student leadership and choice. The After-School Program Teacher will also support the day-to-day operations of the program, including student supervision and safety, attendance, transitions between activities, snack and recreation periods, and positive behavior support. This role works with BAMP program staff and community partners to create a consistent, supportive environment where kids can thrive. This position is ideal for someone with experience or interest in youth development, music education, social-emotional learning, arts education, or community-based programming who is excited to help shape an after-school experience specifically designed for middle school students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support daily student check-in, attendance, and dismissal procedures. Supervise students during transitions, meals, recess, and program activities to ensure a safe and positive environment. Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program spaces and materials. Build positive relationships with students and families and serve as a positive role model. Support student behavior and facilitate conflict resolution using restorative and positive youth development practices. Assist with enrichment activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and team-building exercises. Provide basic first aid and respond appropriately to student needs and emergencies. Communicate effectively with staff and participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS

Completed or is working toward at least 6 semester units in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), or a related field. Experience working with school-age youth in after-school programs, camps, classrooms, or similar settings, or a strong desire to learn. Knowledge of, or interest in, restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ability to remain calm, flexible, and responsive in a dynamic environment. A collaborative mindset, sense of humor, and commitment to supporting all students. The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age. Associate's or Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress), or equivalent experience working with children and youth. Must successfully pass Live Scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative TB test. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
