Job Description

Job Summary Join our vibrant team as an Afterschool Program Staff member at our Youth Center, dedicated to creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children and teens. In this role, you will facilitate a variety of educational, recreational, and developmental activities that promote positive growth and lifelong skills. Your enthusiasm and commitment will inspire young minds, helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally during afterschool hours. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of youth while developing your skills in education, childcare, and youth engagement. Responsibilities Plan and implement diverse afterschool activities including tutoring, arts, sports, theater, and character-building programs that cater to different age groups and interests. Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques to ensure a respectful and inclusive environment. Supervise children and teens during activities, ensuring their safety at all times with attention to child development best practices. Provide basic first aid when necessary and respond promptly to any health or safety concerns. Support children with special needs by adapting activities and applying principles of special education to foster inclusive participation. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community partners to support each child's individual growth and address behavioral or emotional challenges. Maintain accurate attendance records, activity logs, and incident reports to ensure smooth program operations. Requirements Prior experience working with children or in childcare settings such as daycare, camp counseling, tutoring, or babysitting is preferred. Knowledge of classroom management strategies and childhood development principles is essential. Certification in first aid or CPR is highly desirable; willingness to obtain certification upon hire is required. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage children positively and work effectively with diverse populations. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a lively environment while maintaining professionalism and patience. Experience with special education or working with children with disabilities is a plus. Passion for youth development, sports coaching, theater arts, or Christian counseling is beneficial for creating enriching program experiences.
