About Young Audiences Charter Schools Founded in 2013, Young Audiences Charter Schools (YACS) works to achieve its mission of educating the whole child through arts integration and equipping all creative learners to flourish as leaders in life and learning. Position Summary Young Audiences of Louisiana is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Part-Time Afterschool Visual Arts Teacher to provide engaging visual arts instruction for students participating in afterschool programming. The Visual Arts Teacher will plan and lead hands-on art activities that introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques, materials, and forms of creative expression. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young people, can successfully manage groups of students in an afterschool environment, and believes that every student can develop confidence and creativity through the arts. Major Responsibilities and Duties Visual Arts Instruction Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate visual arts lessons and projects. Introduce students to a variety of artistic media and techniques, which may include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and other forms of visual art. Encourage creativity, experimentation, artistic expression, and development of individual student interests. Adapt activities and instruction to accommodate differences in students' ages, abilities, interests, and experience levels. Provide clear demonstrations and instructions for the appropriate use of art materials, equipment, and techniques. Incorporate opportunities for students to learn about artists, artistic styles, cultures, and traditions when appropriate. Encourage students to complete and take pride in their artwork. Assist with the preparation of student artwork for displays, exhibitions, showcases, or other school and community events when requested. Student Engagement and Classroom Management Create a welcoming, positive, inclusive, and creative environment for students. Serve as a positive role model and encourage respectful interactions among students. Establish and consistently reinforce appropriate expectations for student behavior. Maintain active supervision of students throughout the program. Use positive classroom management strategies appropriate for an afterschool environment. Work collaboratively with afterschool staff and school personnel to address student needs and maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, artwork, and facilities. Materials and Studio Management Prepare art materials and instructional spaces prior to lessons. Teach students the safe and appropriate use of art supplies, tools, and equipment. Maintain an organized and safe instructional space. Monitor and appropriately manage art supplies and materials. Ensure students participate appropriately in cleanup and care of the art space. Notify the program supervisor when additional supplies or materials are needed. Communication Establish positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and afterschool program staff. Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and supervisors. Provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to students regarding their artistic development and participation. Communicate student concerns, behavioral issues, safety concerns, or other significant matters promptly to the appropriate supervisor. Professional Conduct and Other Responsibilities Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, dependable, and appropriate when working with children. Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled classes and activities. Follow all YALA, YACS, school, and afterschool program policies and procedures. Participate in required orientations, training, meetings, and professional development activities. Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, or other reasonable afterschool responsibilities as assigned. Perform other duties related to the afterschool program as assigned by the program supervisor. Suggested Qualifications Strong love and appreciation for visual arts, arts education, and working with young people. Experience working with children or adolescents in a school, afterschool, camp, community arts, or similar setting. Demonstrated knowledge or experience in one or more areas of visual arts. Ability to develop engaging, hands-on art activities appropriate for different ages and skill levels. Strong classroom and group management skills. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, and program staff. Dependability and ability to maintain a consistent afterschool schedule. Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, Education, or a related field preferred but not required . Previous teaching or youth development experience required .

Pay:

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 per week
