About Brookwood School:

The Campus:

Brookwood is located 25 miles north of Boston on the coast in Manchester, MA on a beautiful 30-acre wooded campus. The physical plant includes a pond, wetland spaces, forest areas, and open green space. The 130,000 square foot facility sits under one roof with construction ranging from the original 1900 stable (now housing grades 5-8) to the 2014 state-of-the-art lower school, a dining commons, and kitchen. In addition to grade level classrooms, there are five outdoor classrooms, two music rooms, three art studios and a kiln room, four science labs and science gym, a newly renovated library with a 15,000 volume collection, an Idea Lab, a gymnasium and a multi-purpose theater/gymnasium space, a dance studio, two synthetic turf fields, and well-appointed outdoor play spaces. The surrounding area of Cape Ann is filled with beautiful natural and historical attractions such as beaches, parks, preserves, museums, and hiking trails that are used frequently by our students, employees, and families alike.

Job Summary:

Lead After School Instructor will support set and and break down of daily activities, design community building activities to transition children to our active school program, plan and execute daily active body activities for grades 1-8 and fill in for Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs, as needed.

Essential Duties:

After School responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Ensuring spaces are ready for students with materials ○ Lead and coordinate all schedule transitions by utilizing effective classroom management techniques and routines that build community and support a wide range of student needs at the time day ○ Design and lead age-appropriate daily active body choices ○ Step-in to additional responsibilities when the Assistant Director and/or Director of Auxiliary Programs are not present.

• Ensuring student safety and wellbeing at all times by: ○ Maintaining instructor-to-student ratios ○ Being with students at all times and/or knowing their whereabouts ○ Taking attendance ○ Communicating with Auxiliary leadership about incidents or concerns ○ Following all health, safety, and emergency protocols ○ Knowing students as individuals, including their health and behavioral needs, with support from Auxiliary leadership and the School Nurse ○ Assisting with student transitions throughout the afternoon, including to: tutoring, music lessons, enrichment classes, and early pickups • Supervising and engaging children in large and small group settings by: ○ Facilitating developmentally-appropriate, pre-planned activities, both indoors and outdoors, with the opportunity to plan and present lessons in partnership with the Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs ○ Setting and enforcing behavioral expectations • Positively representing Brookwood by: ○ Being a role model for students ○ Cultivating a positive and welcoming community culture ○ Interacting professionally with students, colleagues, and families ○ Working in partnership with Auxiliary leadership ○ Maintaining professional boundaries with students ○ Maintaining the cleanliness of spaces, especially at the end of the day • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Experience working with elementary students in a school or recreational setting
