A Middle or High School Teacher teaches middle school students, usually in grades 6 - 12, in a public or private school. Teaches one subject, or a group of subjects, such as math and science; works with one class all year or teaches different classes of students throughout the day. May mentor students, coach a school team or advise a student club. May specialize in working with students learning English or students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Nature-Based Classroom Teacher Position Summary Essential Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons through nature-based, experiential learning. Integrate literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts into daily instruction. Differentiate learning to meet individual student needs. Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and child-led exploration. Outdoor Learning Lead daily hikes, nature walks, and outdoor learning experiences. Teach environmental stewardship and safe outdoor practices. Facilitate gardening, creek exploration, wildlife observation, and hands-on investigations. Must be able to walk approximately 10,000 steps per day over uneven terrain while carrying a hiking backpack. Work comfortably outdoors in all seasons and varying weather conditions. Classroom Environment Create a positive, organized, and inclusive classroom environment. Establish consistent routines and behavior expectations. Support children's social-emotional growth through positive guidance. Maintain clean, organized indoor and outdoor learning spaces. Child Development Observe, assess, and document student growth. Maintain student portfolios and progress records. Support each child's individual strengths and developmental needs. Safety Maintain constant supervision of children in both indoor and outdoor settings. Follow all licensing regulations and school safety procedures. Conduct daily health and safety checks. Respond appropriately to emergencies and administer first aid when necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Nature-Based, Forest School, or Environmental Education certification preferred. Experience working with children in an educational setting. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Passion for outdoor, experiential, and nature-based education. Experience teaching in mixed-age classrooms and using project-based learning is highly preferred.
