Job Description

Job Summary Freedom Scholars Learning Center is seeking Junior Servant Leaders to support scholars in the Seed Sowers & Storytellers Afterschool Program. Junior Servant Leaders assist with scholar supervision, classroom support, Harambee, literacy activities, enrichment activities, transitions, meals, field trips, and family events. This role is ideal for young adults, college students, recent graduates, or emerging leaders who are interested in youth development, education, literacy, community work, and servant leadership. Junior Servant Leaders work alongside Servant Leader Interns, program staff, volunteers, and families to help create a safe, positive, structured, and affirming environment for scholars. Responsibilities Support scholars during afterschool programming, including literacy activities, enrichment blocks, meals, transitions, and dismissal. Assist Servant Leader Interns and program staff with classroom routines, activities, and scholar engagement. Help prepare, organize, clean, and reset classroom and program spaces. Participate in Harambee and support scholar engagement during chants, songs, read-alouds, announcements, and community-building activities. Assist with Integrated Reading Curriculum activities, reading support, project-based learning, 4-H/gardening activities, DEAR/BOOST time, and afternoon activities. Encourage positive behavior, teamwork, confidence, and respectful peer interaction. Support scholars during field trips, community walks, special events, and family engagement activities. Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and culturally affirming program environment. Communicate scholar needs, concerns, or incidents to Servant Leader Interns, the Site Coordinator, or program leadership. Follow FSLC safety expectations, child protection policies, incident reporting procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Attend and participate in organization trainings, professional development, parent orientation, and daily debrief sessions as required. Qualifications Interest in working with children, families, and community-based programs. Experience with children, youth programs, schools, afterschool programs, camps, tutoring, mentoring, or volunteer service is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to children's advocacy and enthusiasm for the mission of Freedom Scholars Learning Center. Ability to support and encourage scholars with patience, consistency, and care. Ability to work well with Servant Leader Interns, program staff, volunteers, families, and community partners. Positive attitude and willingness to learn. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Appreciation for diverse cultural histories and a commitment to openness and respect for all cultures. Ability to follow directions, receive feedback, and participate in team debriefs. Commitment to humility, service, and servant leadership. Effective conflict resolution skills and a positive self-concept. Ability to follow FSLC safety expectations, child protection policies, incident reporting procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Completion of all required onboarding steps, trainings, and employment documentation prior to beginning work. Submission of a current résumé.
