Job Description

Full-Time Secondary Social Studies Teacher Brown School, an independent school located in Schenectady, NY, is seeking a passionate and engaging Social Studies teacher for the upcoming school year. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Social Studies courses to students in grades 7, 8, and 9, including Economics and Government. Candidates should be prepared to create a dynamic classroom environment that fosters critical thinking, civic engagement, historical understanding, and respectful discussion of diverse perspectives. Demonstration of strong classroom management skills, an investment in continued professional growth, comfort using classroom technology, and a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive community are expected. The teacher is responsible for ongoing assessment of student learning and maintaining regular communication with parents and the Head of School regarding student progress. The teacher will work collaboratively with the Upper School team, including participation in Advisory and other school-wide initiatives that support student growth and development. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, Political Science, Economics, or a related field required Master's degree preferred New York State teaching certification preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and lesson planning skills Positive and effective classroom management skills Ability to engage students through discussion, project-based learning, and real-world connections
Salary:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
