The Opportunity We're hiring for two After School Program roles this school year: Co-Lead — 3228 SW Sunset Blvd., Portland, OR Program Assistant — 12250 SW 5th St., Portland, OR Both roles share a consistent, part-time, weekday-afternoon schedule — Monday through Friday, from the end of the school day through approximately 6:00 PM, for the school year. Co-Lead — What You'll Do 3228 SW Sunset Blvd. Plan & lead activities: plan, implement, and evaluate daily activities and curriculum that promote the development and learning of school-age children, working jointly with your Co-Lead. Maintain a safe, inclusive environment: ensure materials and activities are age-appropriate, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

Guide positive behavior:

establish consistent routines and use positive guidance practices that promote responsibility and respect.

Supervise directly:

provide active, direct supervision of your group of children at all times, sharing responsibility with your Co-Lead. Support assistants & volunteers: supervise and support any program assistants or volunteers assigned to your group.

Respond to needs:

respond promptly to children's needs, including administering basic first aid and completing required incident reports.

Communicate with families:

communicate warmly and regularly with families about their child's experiences and progress.

Keep accurate records:

maintain attendance, incident, and program records in compliance with Oregon licensing requirements.

Co-Lead — What We're Looking For 3228 SW Sunset Blvd. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet all initial and annual training requirements established by the State of Oregon and VHFLC policy. In addition, applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways: Option 1: At least 60 hours of experience working in a school-age program, plus 20 clock hours of training within the past five years in school-age child care — including 5 hours each in Understanding and Guiding Behavior (UGB), Learning Environments and Curriculum (LEC), Human Growth and Development (HGD), and Program Management (PM). Option 2: At least 240 hours of qualifying experience working with school-age children within the past five years in a certified child care center or comparable group care setting. Option 3: An Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, Physical Education, Recreation, Human Development, Child and Family Studies, or Home Economics. Option 4: Attainment of at least Step 6 on the Oregon Registry. Support activity planning:

help plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote learning, social development, and creativity.

Maintain a safe environment:

keep spaces safe, clean, and engaging, ensuring all areas meet health and safety standards. Supervise & engage: supervise children at all times alongside the Program Lead, and actively engage through play, conversation, and planned activities.

Guide positive behavior:

promote positive behavior guidance and help foster a respectful, inclusive environment.

Support transitions:

help organize materials, prepare activities, and manage transitions between activities.

Monitor spaces:

watch indoor and outdoor environments for safety, cleanliness, and appropriate use of equipment.

Keep records:

assist with attendance, incident, and other program documentation as directed.

Communicate professionally:

with children, families, and coworkers.

Age:

must be at least 18 years old.

Training:

Child development knowledge:

understanding of basic principles of child development and positive guidance.

Professionalism:

ability to maintain professionalism, dependability, and confidentiality.
