Overview The U.S. Navy Seabee Museum (USNSM) in Port Hueneme, California, maintains an artifact collection of approximately 17,000 objects. The Contractor shall support museum collections staff by assisting with a comprehensive inventory of all objects in storage. This work includes verifying proper storage conditions, performing basic cleaning as appropriate, and photographing each item for documentation and digitization purposes. The museum is seeking a detail‑oriented, conscientious Collections Inventory & Digitization Specialist to support a major initiative to document, photograph, and digitize the USNSM artifact collection. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work with historic materials, has strong organizational skills, and values careful stewardship of culturally significant artifacts. Key Responsibilities Assist with a comprehensive inventory of the museum's artifact collection. Unpack storage boxes, identify and catalog items, and record all required information. Photograph each artifact as it is inventoried, ensuring clear, high‑quality digital documentation. Repack artifacts using industry‑standard commercial practices to ensure long‑term preservation. Support the museum's broader digitization initiative by applying expert knowledge of collections handling, documentation, and imaging. Perform routine collections work as well as special assignments, including training on new or updated techniques. Work collaboratively with museum personnel of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Exercise exceptional care and professional judgment when handling valuable historic and educational materials. Additional Notes The Navy may not provide step‑by‑step procedures for routine work; however, specific instructions may be provided to the Contractor's Program Manager for special assignments or training. This position carries a high level of responsibility for the protection and proper handling of irreplaceable artifacts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Contractor shall possess working knowledge at an expert level to successfully perform all requirements of this contract, which includes: Digital photography Adobe Photoshop Elements and Acrobat Professional. Communicate verbally and in writing to deal effectively with internal Museum staff and Navy personnel, as well as Museum visitors of all ages and abilities. Work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently Current museum collection management standards and best practices including digital asset management. To advocate and implement best practices and institutional policy regarding the museum's digital assets. Physical ability for walking, climbing ladders, standing, bending, stooping or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds

HOURS OF OPERATION

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 0730 to 1600. Contractor personnel are not required to work on federal holidays when the museum is closed.

PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

The period of performance is anticipated to be 7 September 2026- 6 September 2027, as well as a twelve-month option period of 7 September 2027 to 6 September 2028.
