Job Description
Director of Faith Formation Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ | Duluth, Minnesota Pilgrim Church is looking for a creative, energetic, and compassionate Director of Faith Formation to help us nurture faith, build community, and create meaningful experiences for people of all ages. We are a progressive Christian congregation in the United Church of Christ, and we believe faith formation is about much more than what happens in a classroom. It happens around tables, on service projects, in worship, on trips, in conversations with young people, in the neighborhood, and in the everyday moments when we discover what it means to live out our faith together. We are seeking someone who is excited to walk alongside children, youth, families, and the whole congregation as we learn, serve, play, worship, and grow together. What You'll Do The Director of Faith Formation provides overall leadership for education ministry at Pilgrim, including:
Church School:
Oversee our church school program, including curriculum selection, volunteer recruitment and support, supplies, special events, and collaboration with the Senior Pastor on children and family worship experiences.Confirmation:
Work with the Senior Pastor to recruit and support confirmands and mentors, plan and teach classes, coordinate guest speakers and field trips, and help create a meaningful confirmation experience.Youth Ministry:
Build relationships with middle and high school youth, create opportunities for experiential learning, service, fellowship, and spiritual growth, and recruit and support adult volunteers.Intergenerational Ministry:
Develop opportunities for people of all ages to learn, worship, serve, play, and grow together.Family Ministry:
Be a supportive and accessible presence for parents and caregivers, helping families navigate faith formation both within and beyond the church.Volunteer Leadership:
Recruit, train, encourage, and equip the wonderful people who make faith formation possible. Who We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Has education and theological training, ideally including Christian education certification or equivalent experience. Has demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring children and youth. Is committed to progressive Christian faith and values. Brings enthusiasm, creativity, optimism, and energy to education ministry. Understands child development and knows how to connect with and inspire children. Has a strong rapport with adolescents and enjoys building genuine relationships with young people. Is familiar with the United Church of Christ and appreciates its progressive theological tradition. Is a strong communicator, collaborator, and community builder. Has the ability to network and build relationships beyond the walls of the church. This position is open to both ordained clergy and lay professionals. We welcome applicants whose education, experience, gifts, and calling equip them for this ministry. $50,000 annuallyFlexible Benefits Allowance:
$7,000 annuallyVacation:
Two weeks paid vacation The $7,000 flexible benefits allowance may be used at the employee's discretion for health insurance, retirement contributions, or other eligible personal benefits.Total annual compensation:
