Job Description

Job Overview School of Rock New Canaan is looking for an energetic, patient and engaging Early Childhood Music Instructor to lead our Rookies program for children ages 4-7. Rookies is designed to give young children a fun and positive first experience with music. Through group activities, musical games, movement, singing, rhythm exercises and hands-on exploration of instruments, students begin developing the basic skills and confidence that will prepare them for the next level of School of Rock programs. This is an ideal part-time position for someone with early childhood education or preschool experience who also has a musical background or strong musical ability . Responsibilities Lead engaging Rookies classes for children ages 4-7 using the School of Rock curriculum and teaching approach Introduce students to basic musical concepts including rhythm, melody, tempo and dynamics Give students age-appropriate exposure to instruments including drums, keyboards, guitar, bass and vocals Use games, movement, singing and other interactive activities to keep young students engaged Create a positive, encouraging and well-managed classroom environment Help students develop listening skills, coordination, confidence and an enthusiasm for music Adapt activities to different personalities, learning styles and developmental levels Communicate professionally and positively with parents and School of Rock staff Help prepare students to eventually transition into School of Rock's Rock 101 program Experience & Qualifications Experience working with young children is strongly preferred Background in early childhood education, preschool education, elementary education, child development or a related field is a plus Musical experience is strongly preferred Ability to sing and/or play one or more instruments is a plus Comfortable leading a small group of energetic young children Patient, enthusiastic, dependable and able to make learning fun Strong communication and classroom management skills College students and recent graduates in Early Childhood Education, Education, Music Education, Music or related programs are encouraged to apply You do not need to be a professional musician. For this position, the ability to connect with young children and create a fun, engaging learning environment is just as important as musical experience. School of Rock provides the Rookies curriculum, program structure and training.

Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
