ABOUT THE ACADEMY WPMA

is a pre-college, conservatory-style academy in Alpharetta, just north of Atlanta, and one of the strongest programs of its kind in the Southeast. Our students hold one of the largest shares of any single academy in Georgia's All-State and youth-orchestra seats, including leadership chairs in NYO, NYO2, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, and GMEA All-State. They win state, national, and international competitions, and alumni have gone on to conservatories such as Juilliard, Peabody, the Jacobs School, New England Conservatory, and the San Francisco Conservatory, and universities including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, and Duke.

WHAT YOU WILL TEACH

You will lead the coursework where students build rhythmic security, a trained ear, and fluency in theory and notation, the groundwork behind their auditions, competitions, recitals, and acceptances.

Small classes:

roughly five students now, scaling to eight to twelve as the program grows, small enough to reach every student and large enough to build momentum. An in-house curriculum with depth in rhythm and ear training and theory integrated throughout. You will not be inventing a syllabus; you will be given a proven method and shown exactly how to deliver it. Direct training from one of our master theory teachers, so you start with confidence rather than guesswork. You bring musicianship and genuine care for students. We supply the curriculum, the training, and the students.

ROOM TO GROW

Instructors who excel in the classroom may be invited to teach privately in theory and/or composition, which means additional hours, one-on-one work with serious students, and a larger role at the academy. It is not an application; it is earned through classroom excellence, and we make sure the opportunity exists for those who earn it.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong musicianship with the ability to demonstrate, and particular command of rhythm and ear training Solid grounding in music theory; composition experience is a plus Teaching experience with motivated students, or the drive and aptitude to become an excellent teacher quickly Coachability.
