School Music Educator — Job Description About Us Southern Music Academy is a leading music school based in Georgia, USA, offering private lessons for a range of instruments — including guitar, piano, drums, voice, and violin — mainly in the homes of our students. We also provide Kindermusik and group music classes for preschool-aged children at childcare facilities and schools throughout the Atlanta metro area . Responsibilities Teach Kindermusik classes to preschool-aged children at partner childcare centers, following Kindermusik curriculum standards and pacing. Deliver engaging group music lessons in music theory, rhythm, and performance/movement techniques to students of varying ages and abilities at schools and childcare centers. Teach private in-home music lessons on piano and/or other instruments to students as young as 5 years old. Develop and customize curricula and lesson plans — for both private and group settings — aligned with music education standards and tailored to diverse learning styles and developmental stages. Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities or special learning requirements, ensuring equitable access to music instruction. Drive to the homes of students and to partner schools/childcare centers within the Atlanta metro area. Teachers typically do not drive more than 10-15 miles (about 15-20 minutes) to a location. Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and a reliable vehicle. Assess student progress through observation and performance tracking; provide constructive feedback to students and families to support growth. Track attendance and progress for each student and class, maintaining accurate records for school/childcare administration. Collaborate with colleagues and school/childcare staff on curriculum development, classroom management strategies, and events such as recitals or performances. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and school or childcare administration regarding student progress, class content, and upcoming performances or assessments. Qualifications Kindermusik certification strongly preferred ; willingness to obtain certification considered for the right candidate. Proven classroom teaching experience in music with elementary, preschool, or early childhood settings; experience in private school or childcare environments is a plus. Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field preferred. Strong knowledge of music education principles, including reading musical notation and rhythm/timing fundamentals. Ability to modify instructional approaches based on individual learning styles and developmental needs; experience working with children from diverse cultural backgrounds is highly valued. Excellent classroom and group management skills, with behavior management techniques that foster a positive learning atmosphere for young children. Effective communication skills for engaging students, collaborating with colleagues and site staff, and maintaining open parent relationships. Strong curriculum development and lesson customization skills for both 1:1 and group formats. Patient, encouraging, and passionate about early childhood and school-age music education. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Excellent time management and organizational skills; comfortable managing a multi-site weekly schedule.
