JOB SUMMARY
Directs and develops the middle school band program by providing high-quality musical instruction and performance opportunities. Collaborates with district music staff to maintain a vertically aligned band program while fostering student growth, achievement, and participation.
REPORTS TO
Building Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Indiana teaching license with appropriate music certification. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated knowledge of instrumental music instruction and performance. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver engaging standards-based instrumental music instruction for grades 5-8. Direct middle school band performances including marching band, concert band, and jazz band. Prepare students for concerts, festivals, competitions, and other performances. Recruit and retain students in the band program. Evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records. Establish a positive classroom environment that promotes student achievement and responsible behavior. Collaborate with elementary and high school music staff to ensure continuity within the district's music program. Manage band equipment, instruments, music library, and related inventory. Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and approved travel. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administrators. Comply with Corporation policies, the Faculty Handbook, and the Teacher Evaluation Plan. Perform other duties as assigned.
