Position Summary The Strings Teacher will support the integration of strings and orchestral music instruction throughout the K-8 curriculum, deliver engaging and age-appropriate instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass, help students develop musicianship, ensemble skills, and a lifelong appreciation for music, and collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to enhance the school's fine arts programming. Key Duties & Responsibilities Develop and teach a cohesive strings curriculum for Grades K through 8, with age-appropriate scope and sequence (e.g., instrument fundamentals, music literacy, ensemble playing, performance technique). Plan and deliver lessons that align with school values, the instructional framework, and relevant state and national music standards. Provide direct instruction individually, in small groups, and in full ensemble/orchestra settings. Select and adapt repertoire appropriate to students' skill levels and performance opportunities. Manage and maintain the strings classroom and rehearsal environment: instruments, cases, music stands, sheet music, and supplies. Coordinate instrument inventory, including checkout, return, and basic maintenance/repair referrals. Prepare students for school performances, recitals, and community events; coordinate logistics for concerts and showcases. Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments; provide feedback; use data to inform instruction and adjust curriculum as needed. Participate in professional development; collaborate with other arts and enrichment staff; stay current with emerging best practices in string pedagogy. Contribute to school-wide fine arts programming and support broader enrichment goals. Communicate with parents/guardians about the strings program, student progress, and expectations for practice at home.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field. Louisiana certification preferred. Demonstrated proficiency on violin, viola, cello, and/or bass, with the ability to teach across multiple string instruments. Excellent classroom management skills and ability to engage students across all elementary and middle school age levels. Effective collaborator, communicator, and team player in working with teachers, administrators, and support staff. Commitment to equity, culturally responsive teaching, and supporting diverse learners. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Classroom and rehearsal environment; may require moving between rooms or buildings. Ability to lift and move instruments and equipment (e.g., cellos, basses, stands, cases) as needed. Plans and delivers engaging, differentiated strings instruction aligned with school goals. Demonstrates positive student outcomes in musicianship, ensemble performance, and instrument technique. Builds strong partnerships with classroom teachers and integrates music meaningfully into school culture. Maintains an organized, efficient instructional environment and supports reliable access to instruments for students. Continuously reflects on practice and leverages professional learning to enhance the strings program.
