Summary:

The music teacher provides music instruction to each homeroom at all grade levels (nursery through grade six).

Description:

The teacher will have responsibility for implementing our music curriculum. There are 21 classes per week from pre-k through 6th grade scheduled over four days. In addition, the music teacher produces and directs the school's Christmas concert and spring concert. In conjunction with the principal and assistant principal, the teacher helps develop the music program for the entire school. The position also serves as a liaison to the parish music director.

Essential Functions:

Create and implement unit and lesson plans for each grade level. Carefully design music lessons with clear objectives and varied forms of assessment. Maintain student grades and records. Implement a positive approach to classroom management. Communicate with parents and colleagues regarding student progress and mastery. Assist with supervisory duties, e.g. morning duty, recess, lunch, and dismissal as assigned.

Qualifications:

B.A. in music or related field Prior teaching experience or work with elementary children Strong communication and interpersonal skills Highly motivated and self-directed Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural, and diverse student population Must have the ability to work in a school environment by successfully passing the state mandated Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check Positive appearance, attitude and presentation with a strict sense of confidentiality Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality is required and a condition of employment
