Academic Year:
2026-2027 (Late September - Early June | Approx. 30 Weeks) About the Role Making Music Matters is seeking passionate, flexible, and engagingViolin Instructors and Substitutes for the 2026/2027 academic year. In this role, you will teach weekly, in-person group violin lessons to 3rd through 8th-grade students in Boston Public Schools. Classes typically consist of up to 10 students, run for roughly 55 minutes during school hours, and observe standard school vacation and testing schedules.
Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum:
Teach weekly group lessons, and follow program benchmarks and best practices.
Student Engagement:
Inspire and motivate young musicians (ages 8-14) across varying skill levels and experience.
Performance Preparation:
Prepare and lead students for in school concerts, community events, and the annual evening Spring Concert.
Professional Collaboration:
Attend 3-5 faculty meetings per year (in-person or via Zoom) and participate in mandatory, paid professional development sessions.
Community Support:
Assist with fundraising events as needed.
Qualifications:
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Music or Education (Master's degree preferred).
Experience:
Prior teaching experience required; experience in urban public school settings is a strong plus.
Instrument Expertise:
Ability to teach Violin (beginning viola and cello are a strong plus).
Availability:
Partial availability during school hours (8:35 AM - 3:00 PM) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays. Available for one evening Spring Concert (typically held in late March).
Location:
Reliable transportation/ability to teach in-person at partner schools in Roslindale/West Roxbury.

Making Music Matters [MMM] is a collaborative school-based, grant-funded, parent-driven program providing 30 weeks of free, group instrumental lessons in clarinet, flute, trumpet, and violin to students in Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6 during regular school hours in 5 Boston Public Schools in the Roslindale/West Roxbury neighborhoods. The program offers several in-school and community performance opportunities during the year. MMM is committed to ensuring equity of access to quality arts education welcoming all students without auditions. MMM is deliberately inclusive and enrolls students from all educational settings in each school.
