GRYC Music Instructor for Elementary Afterschool

Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dependable Music Instructor to lead engaging music activities for elementary school students in grades K-5. The Music Instructor will introduce students to music through singing, rhythm, movement, instruments, music games, and literacy. The ideal candidate will create a fun and supportive environment that encourages students to build confidence, develop musical skills, and enjoy learning. Key Responsibilities Plan and facilitate age-appropriate music lessons and activities for students in grades K-5. Ability to create engaging, hands-on activities that keep students actively involved. Introduce students to a variety of musical instruments and basic instrumental techniques. Encourage creativity through songwriting, musical composition, improvisation, and other hands-on activities. Adapt activities to meet the different ages, abilities, and interests of students. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment. Prepare students for performances and showcases. Falicitate a Chorus club that runs once a week. Follow all program policies and procedures, including student safety and supervision requirements. Qualifications & Requirements Experience teaching music/ leading music activities and working with elementary-aged children. Strong knowledge of basic music concepts and instructional techniques. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Energetic, patient, creative, and enthusiastic approach to working with children. Experience with singing, instrumental instruction, music technology, or performance is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, program staff, and other instructors.
Minimum:
High school diploma/GED and relevant experience in music or youth programming.
Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field. Must be able to successfully complete any required background checks and program clearances. Available to work Monday through Friday from 2PM to 5:30PM. Preferred Skills Experience working in an elementary school, afterschool, summer camp, or youth development setting. Experience directing children's performances or ensembles. Ability to incorporate culturally diverse music and musical traditions into lessons. Ability to make music fun, accessible, and welcoming for students of all skill levels.
Pay:
$21.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 17.5 per week
