Private Guitar Instructor — Job OverviewAbout the Role At Anthem Road Academy, music lessons are about more than learning an instrument—they're about developing confident, creative individuals who can shine both on and off the stage. We are seeking a passionate, dependable, and student-focused Guitar Instructor who is excited to help students develop strong foundational skills, discover their musical voice, and grow in confidence as musicians and performers. Our ideal instructor is not only a skilled guitarist, but also an encouraging teacher and mentor who can meet students where they are and help them reach their individual goals. Responsibilities Provide engaging, individualized one-on-one guitar lessons for students of varying ages and experience levels Develop personalized lesson plans based on each student's goals, abilities, interests, and learning style Teach foundational and advanced guitar skills, including: Proper posture and technique Chords and chord progressions Scales and patterns Rhythm and strumming Picking techniques Fingerstyle Lead guitar and soloing Music theory Sight-reading and notation Ear training Improvisation Teach both acoustic and electric guitar techniques when applicable Develop students' ability to play songs independently and confidently Teach a variety of musical styles, which may include rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, worship, classical, singer-songwriter, and contemporary music Help students select appropriate repertoire based on their age, skill level, interests, and goals Incorporate students' favorite music into lessons while continuing to build strong musical foundations Help students develop confidence, stage presence, performance skills, and musical independence Prepare students for recitals, auditions, competitions, performances, and other musical opportunities Encourage creativity through improvisation, songwriting, arranging, and musical exploration Create a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and growing Track student progress and provide meaningful feedback to students and parents Maintain lesson notes, scheduling information, and student records as needed Communicate professionally and consistently with parents, students, and the ARA team Participate in recitals, performances, community events, workshops, and other ARA activities when applicable Collaborate with other instructors and continue developing professionally as a musician and educator Qualifications Strong guitar proficiency and musicianship Ability to teach beginning through advanced guitar students Strong understanding of guitar technique, music theory, rhythm, chords, and musicianship Comfortable teaching both acoustic and/or electric guitar Experience performing and/or teaching guitar preferred, but not required for the right candidate Ability to teach multiple musical styles and adapt instruction to different student goals Strong communication and interpersonal skills Patient, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style Comfortable working with children, teens, and/or adults Professional, dependable, and organized Ability to create an environment where students feel supported and confident Comfortable preparing students for performances and auditions Commitment to continued musical and professional growth Additional Skills We Love Experience or expertise in any of the following is a plus: Rock and contemporary guitar Lead guitar and soloing Acoustic guitar and fingerstyle Blues and improvisation Jazz guitar Country guitar Worship guitar Musical theatre accompaniment Singer-songwriter techniques Songwriting and composition Playing by ear Reading chord charts and lead sheets Recording, looping, or music production Band coaching or ensemble experience Experience performing in live bands Ability to accompany vocalists or other instrumentalists Teaching multiple instruments What Makes Anthem Road Academy Different?
